My New AMD Build - 3950x x570 extreme

Hi all,

i'm new here.

My previous build was a TR 1950x w Zenith Extreme but unfortunately some damage occurs on my TR 1950x because OC's ( fix @ 4.080 3466 ). i think the IMC is compromised and even @ 2.80Ghz x 2400Mhz DDr the system cannot pass a simple cpu-z stress test.

i've decided to build a new one with 3950x + Aorus x570 extreme. i can't wait for 4k cpu's and at this point i'm waiting for x850-950/pcie5/ddr5 ( i think late 2023 ).

Because the problem occurs with my TR 1950x i'm a little bit worried and just want to ask anyone to take a look at this screenshots and give me some advice on how i can optimize better than now, expecially if is possible to use lower value for voltages. I'm pretty happy with 3200 c14 T1/1800.

Build

3950x x35 ( normal ) LLC's to high
AORUS x570 extreme ( 12e bios )
TridentZ 3200 cl14 RGB @ 1.35 ( x32 xmp manual optimized timings )
XFR 1800 @ 950mV / 950mV
Soc Vcore 1.025

with this settings i can pass AIDA64 stress ( CPU+FPU+GPU+MEMORY+CACHE ). How much time you think is good to test it ?
Memtest x86 8.3 pro pass without errors


stability test + obs recording @ Very low + high + film 16000 Kbps
Playing doom eternal @ Ultra nightmare with 2080 ti AIO @ 2140 + 950 vram
Playing BF5 (equivalent Doom eternal settings)
Metro exodus (equivalent Doom eternal settings)
Destiny 2 (equivalent Doom eternal settings)
gta 5 (equivalent Doom eternal settings)

You should enable PBO as it looks like you have to disabled. I would also set SOC to 1.1V like it should be but that is just me. You really should be getting over 10,000 in R20. I mean if you want to get the best performance out of the chip that is. You could also read the thread about EDC, TDC and PPT values. Even if you do not follow what it says it is good info. I see you are hitting 100% on EDC which means to me it is still set to default and not allowing the chip to get near it's potential in multi-thread or single thread performance. Definitely will not hit even close to the 4.7Ghz single core speed.

Don't set your FCLK higher than your MEMCLK. You can get that memory kit to around 3600/3733 with decent timings if you really want to. Then you can do 1:1 FCLK which is the proper way to do it.

Don't stress everything at once. It's best to test CPU+FPU+CACHE or MEM+CACHE or just MEM or just GPU.

Don't set LLC too high because PB & PBO won't boost as high if you do.

Don't do a static OC. Try to let PBO do its thing or use the PBO bug.

Your are right, pbo is disabled because i know that is a bit risky ... it's true the warning on bios or there is a way to safe use it ?
i have Core boost and cool&quiet enabled and cstate disabled.

To not set llc's too high i have to set to extreme or higher, right ?

i don't know what PBO Bug is. it's similar to ryzen timings etc ?.

the cpu vcore is set to normal. i have to set it to auto ?

ok, i try to reach 3600 with decent timings with the help of ryzen timings and thipoon burner.

you think that i can use this ram near to 1.4v instead to 1.35v ?.

Hi all,

with both your advice i have set the soc to 1.1 ( it's the soc value on Tweaker page, right ? ).

and for Pbo "bug" i have all three Ptt, edc, tdc 0 -0 -0 :| under PBO manual settings.

i have set the cpu v core to auto and all llc's to extreme and one of them to ultra high.

i try to make a screenshot of the bios.

I'm sorry guys but some settings like PBO , XFR etc.. are present in two places.. i don't know why. one under AMD overclock and one under AMD CBS etc..

It looks like your board is like mine and does not like the TDC and PPT set to 0. Before really playing with those values at 0 you should try to first set them to the Motherboard spec. Mine on my 3900X is set to PPT=500 and TDC=210 which is what my VRM supposedly can do safely, and no the processor will never ever draw that much and will only draw what it needs and can handle. My EDC value I set to 16 and my 3900x can hit all core 4.275Ghz, up from 4.125Ghz on standard PBO. Single core it will hit 4.65Ghz on two seperate cores and the rest in CCD1 to 4.575Ghz or higher. This is up from one core hitting 4.525Ghz without the tweak. The 3950x has a different suggested EDC value, I think it is 25 but do not recall. When I set my values to 0 they basically defaulted to the AMD defaults which is the values you started with. If I was you I would just enable PBO and that should raise your EDC, TDC and PPT settings to what the board can do. Start there and set the Power Plan in Windows to the AMD Ryzen Balanced plan that comes with the latest AMD Chipset Drivers found on AMD's site. Then if you want more tweak away. But that should get you in the 10,200 pts R20 range.


Oh and see if you can push that ram up to 3600Mhz to keep the Infinity Fabric at 1800Mhz. To keep mine at 3800, I have 3600 ram, I had to set my voltage to 1.4V for the memory. Ryzen Calculator suggested that value so I used it.

i have set the PBO to advanced and set the values to "Use motherboard" because i don't knwo the exact value for this 70a vrm and 3950x. You remember a thread about it ?.

i don't want to do the best extreme overclock on the planet .. just want to use it relatively safe for life span of the hardware but with a good "optimized" OC.

Any other suggestion are greatly appreciated.

i don't have understand "what is" the Soc core to be set to 1.1.. have a lot of Vcores in AMD. i think the one on the tweaker page, right ?.

Yeah... works @ 3600cl16 ... thank you @jamie1073 . the voltage stays at 1.35 with a little oscillations but i know it's normal. i think to do some tests to verify the stability.

take a look to this bench score ... it's massive... an upgrade in BW that is the double !.

Looks good. Yes select use Motherboard and that will get you set right for PBO. I normally use Auto on all my CPU voltages and just let the system decide. SOC is normally set to 1.1 or auto in my BIOS the rest Auto but my MB is an MSI so different BIOS.


Also try a Cinebench R20 run now and see how the numbers changed score wise. For comparison.

Unexpectedly... with CBr20 the score is dropped to about 800 points!!! ... i don't know why despite the greatly enhanced memory/imc BW. Maybe some throttling or errors on memory ?.

i see now that the value for PPT are (W) i assume watts... and TDC/EDC uses (A) that i assume is Ampere.

You know if a tool is available to calculate this value ?. Also i can't understand what the settings for VRM's means...

Update:

I have set the vrm's to auto and now cb score is 9265. Probably some throttling or bad settings.
i have read about vrm and vdrop/vcore correlation but don't have all the information right now. i have to learn but if someone can help is good .
Any sugestion ?. even 98xx is good for me .

CB single core @ 520 points is too bad for this processor ?. i'm expecting close to 580/60 :|
