Expendable Ryzen Builds for my Observatory - Need Advice
My observatory generally runs with a laptop and its in there 24/7, on, sleeping when not in use. It's covered. The observatory's roof opens to the sky, so the equipment is not exposed, but it's not in an air conditioned building either (this is Florida) Been in there for about 4 years now with no issues. It's aging and I can either replace it with another laptop, or I can go ahead and just build a small PC. I already have a monitor and good PSU waiting to be used from other machines laying around. The main thing is looking at a modern build potentially with integrated graphics (no need at all for GPU, the computer just runs CPU intensive tasks and generates lots of data) to avoid needing a display adapter of any kind if CPU's can be had with integrated, like APU, but I don't really want to buy some ancient tech that has no future in case I add more to the machine's tasks. I already have a 1TB SSD that will go in it as well and it will run Win7 currently until I decide to go to Win10 due to the software I run being Windows based.
I was looking at the Ryzen 3200G APU as an inexpensive way to get a solid CPU and integrated graphics into one thing.
The issue is the motherboard. Inexpensive boards for 3200G don't seem to be very plentiful.
This computer's task is to run planetarium software (Stellarium) while operating up to two high speed cameras over USB3 and generates lots of data (RAW video), generally 100~200Gb in an hour when in use. I'm writing to a 1TB SSD. So the bus needs to be pretty good, architecture needs to be good and I'll likely put 16Gb RAM into it as its the main buffer for everything with the cameras.
Any advice on motherboard?
Other CPU advice?
Any potential issues with the 3200G I'm not considering?
The enclosure will be heavily filtered to avoid any bugs making it a home. Dust cannot be avoided. It will be a minimal build and I can clean it often enough to not be a problem. Think of my observatory environment to be similar to someone's garage.
