So the start button right click menu from windows 8.1 is still there? GOOD, that menu continues to be the most useful thing microsoft has done for me in Windows.

Guys, is there a way to use the start screen from windows 8/8.1 or i HAVE to use the new start menu?

You CAN use the W8 start screen in a certain form or another. With Continuum, if it detects you've got touch hardware, it'll use a more full-screen start screen. I would imagine that you can enforce this somewhere regardless of the detection of touch hardware or not.

It works fine for Windows Phone (and makes sense, given the screen size), but a full size OS can (and SHOULD) afford to have some texture. The flat look OS makes it seem less like a mainstream OS and more like something you'd start children out on to teach them about primary colors and shapes.

Blech.

Textures - yes, I feel strongly about them, too. But I like flat, and all the glossary and '3D' tires me out a bit.

It all depends on the level of "3D" involved.

A nice subtle 3D effect is welcome and beneficial. The buttons should "stick out" enough to let you know they are there, but without drawing attention to themselves.

Take this image, for instance.

Same word. Same font. Same color.

The beveling and gloss levels are different.

The one on the left is well done, with a nice bevel and a small amount of gloss.

The one on the right, though, is overblown and obnoxious.

Mad science means never stopping to ask "What's the worst that could happen?"

A few questions.

1.) Is there any way to get the security nightmare known as onedrive off the os?

2.) Is there anyway to get the security nightmare known as windows store off the os?

3.) Is there anyway to get the security nightmare of bing searching the web and computer off the os?

4.) Is there anyway to either have metro apps or normal app, it gives me a headache to have to deal with a bi polar os?

Got a new mobo in the post and will probably try this out before installing 8.1, unless its usable? How is the OS for 4K?

I agree with you, however once its on finally release maybe there will be more options. Beyond that I am liking this version of Windows so far, there are some bugs but that's to be expected.

Have this up and running on my 2nd desktop (Lynnfield). worked with 8.1 drivers just fine. Haven't installed any games on it yet but everything is running smooth and this is already a better OS than 8.1 was out of the box.
