My desktop for gaming etc runs W7 so I am new to 10. Good god....

I am trying to use a laptop for astrophotography which has Windows 10 installed. I want to do a clean install of Windows 10. There is an option to re-install but I am thinking that will just use an Asus image with the same Asus bloatware. In the past you could just download a Windows image and use your key. Is this still possible with Windows 10? The key is listed in Windows 10, I just want to make sure that key will work for another W10 image.

My goal is to have a clean Windows 10 installed, I really don't want to be linked only to the image on the Asus laptop as I suspect it will re-install all that crap. Uninstalling it has worked but I feel a real clean re-install will help the laptop run faster. The astrophotography software isn't all that demanding per-se but having the best possible speed is always helpful.

Sorry if this is a basic question, I've been out of the loop on WIndows 10. I would just buy a 7 copy for the laptop but many of the camera drivers and software versions are being optimized for 10.

Hi,
The easiest way to insure 10 will activate is to link the machine with an MS account
You can always switch to a local user account later if that is what you use now.

Right. Microsoft used to have the 7 images available download. Is it that way for 10? I am trying to avoid wasting time installing a bloatware version. I need as much RAM as I can get with this laptop.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/

Download the "MediaCreationTool" and during the process click - Create installation media. It will let you download a clean Windows 10 iso to your computer.
