The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0

I just noticed this error in event viewer this morning and apparently it has been ongoing since October 4th. Looking back, I believe that's the day I installed my new SSD. I upgraded from a Crucial MX100 to a Samsung 860 EVO and used EASEUS to clone the drive. Everything went without a hitch and I have had absolutely no issues with the drive since. What could be the reason for this popping up 50+ times a day?

edit: I'm not sure why my rig isn't showing up in my sig anymore. Has this been removed as a feature again?

Did you try the SSD with a different SATA port/cable to see if the same thing happens again?it might not be the drive, but a faulty SATA port/cable

You could download Samsung Magician and see if there's a firmware update for your drive..

Υou could also try updating or resetting your BIOS/UEFI, to see if that fixes things up

This is a laptop, so def. not a cable. I had a hard drive slotted in here before I updated. I don't remember if it was my SSD or HDD backup, but this error never presented itself beforehand. So it's logical to assume this is specific to this SSD install. I'll check out Samsung Magician after resetting my BIOS.

Swapping the SSD to the other SATA port seems to have done the trick. I don't see any new atapi errors since rebooting.

Thanks for the suggestions. Glad this was easily resolved even if it doesn't help fix the actual issue with the Sata port itself. Good thing my backup drive is an external.
