I use 2 monitors for my work and I want to hook up my tv to my computer so I can go from work to gaming anytime, but whenever I hook up the tv and try to switch the primary display to display 3, then it throws everything off when I want to switch back and I have to unplug the tv altogether. I have it plugged in via a displayport to hdmi adapter as my Vega 56 only has 1 hdmi port I use for the 2nd monitor. Is there a program that will manage this better than Windows? Should I try using displayport for both monitors and hdmi for the tv? Is there a way to assign monitors? Like to assign my main monitor as display 1 and my 2nd monitor as display 2?

Thanks

Yes use DP for monitors and HDMI for TV. There has always been a primary monitor setting. It's a driver/Windows thing a 3rd party app can't help you I think.

What does throw everything off even mean. Primary display is the assignment.

Multi display setups never worked right due to lack of proper support in drivers. 1080p60 + 1440p144... good luck getting that setup issue free. Let alone any more complicated setups, and adaptive sync which I think still only works on 1 output not on all connected displays, etc. Users have to write to AMD, Nvidia, Microsoft, etc. and report these issues, demand fixes, but they don't much and then they don't fix anything for decades.

I mean like I will throw the display to my TV and Steam's big picture will come up fine and everything, everything scales properly, but then I throw the picture back to my main 1440p monitor and then I have to wait, and then when it shows up on there, I have to hope that I can "extend" to my 2nd 1080p monitor.

Question, my 2nd monitor is 10 years old and it has only DVI. Would a DVI to DP cable work better than a DVI to HDMI cable with a DP adapter on it?
