So, I just bought all of the components for my new comp and realized I forgot one of the more important ones, being an OS!!! I have looked at a few places that sell OEM versions of XP pro (w/ SP2) but they all have a disclaimer saying something to th eeffect of this is an unregisterable product due to being an OEM edition...does this mean I just can`t register it, or does this mean I won`t be able to activate it as well and therefore it will lock me out eventually? Thanks guys!

There's no reason an OEM OS should not register...usually the disclaimer reads "This is OEM software, and must be purchased with hardware"...lol

Get it from Newegg...they'll send you a free y-plug power adaptor as the qualified hardware...hehehe

Here isthe particular message that worried me...

"By pressing this button you agree to receive the software designated for home use only without any certificate or a license. You will not be able to register this software with the manufacturer.

Please be patient, the transaction processing may take up to 4 minutes."

I don`t mind buying from Newegg, but this particular place will get me xp pro and xp office pro for $90....

Positively Absolutely Indefinitely NEVER buy from that site.

They are not verisigned, and they do not use SSL to secure your personal information.

They use those incredibly cheap prices to lure you there...I think you'll find purchasing from there will do more harm than good.

AMD = Intel
It just depends on if you need to run multiple applications simultaneously, let's cut the banter and behave rationally my friends.

You know, as soon as I posted that I noticed they aren`t verisigned! Thanks for pointing that out though, I do appreciate it! I didn`t even catch it the first time I went through their site...that could have been bad!

Don't worry about the OEM versions, I have it and it works fine, Just stick with proven vendors like Tiger Direct or New Egg and you will be OK.

I got my OEM Windows XP pro for like $150 from www.zipzoomfly.com

They have free 2-day FedEx on tons of their stuff.

I just bought a $6 phone cable thing (go in their cables section)

Pretty cheap. www.zipzoomfly.com is a company I'm proud to recommend (saved me tons. I've ordered from them at least 6 times)

how many people actually register with M$ anyway, I know I sure don't.
I'll activate if I have to, which is only on my copy of Server 2003 that came with the class, but thats it.
