Happens to the best of us man.
I've never had a virus before in my entire life of using computers (coming up to about 15 years). The infected computer in question I use mainly for gaming, haven't installed anything in the last few days... Your guess is as good as mine.

Probably doesn't help that I've never seen windows 7 in repair or recovery mode tongue.gif

To OP, it should be possible to get rid of it, but **** happens and you might end up having to reinstall completely depending on what the virus does.

I don't and did not run any program I don't recognise. I knew something was not quite right, which is why I didn't run the Repair 'tool'. How it got there is beyond me!

Windows Defender. Hey, I managed god knows how many years with no AV, and never had a problem. And yes, I do know that for sure because I'd every couple months download an AV and run it just to check. Then I'd delete after it had confirmed I was doing fine without one.

I fully own up to not catching on it was fake right off the bat. That is preeeetty funny I must admit redface.gif
But, in my defence, I have had a really, really long day and am suffering from a recurring throat infection. Just before exam period too, so yes, I've been freaking out all day pretty much.

did you remove it then ???... i come across PC's with these fake/rogue security progs all the time. They are easy to fix

Run malwarebytes in safemode, then run hijackthis just to check if there is anything left. Sometimes they mess with the proxy settings and hosts file but easily fixed

As I said earlier, I'll be doing it at the weekend. It's now 22:34 here, and I have an early start and a very full day tomorrow.

I'm not going to bother repairing, I'll be completely and securely wiping my C: drive and reinstalling win7.

Now, I really should go to bed. GN.

dissy

I watch porn every single day, but my computer is problem-free.

Although, if I get a virus due to watching porn, then it's worth it.

Loneliness is a good thing to share with someone.

The virtuous spirit has no need for thankful approval, owning a certain conviction that what has been done is right.

Formatting your HDD is a bit over the top. It would probs take less than 30 minutes to fix, a lot less time than a format and reinstall. Its like replacing your car engine just because the water pump has broke

To hear this from TwoCables eek.gif I do the same though. Hey, I'm a teen, what did ya expect? The reason is never porn though, it's all about user error.
