So I'm using notepad++ to program SQF files. Because notepad++ will all ways put a closing of whatever bracket, I all allways gotta jump to my arrow keys to close the if statement. I'm wondering if there is a alternative way to move my cursor besides mouse with notepad++ or ditch notepad++?

I've tried VI or something like that (for windows) and failed miserably and tried to lookup tutorials on youtube and they where 30 minutes long and didn't even tell me how to do basic things in 5 mins...

Thanks,
Higgins909

I used to praise Notepad ++ till i found Kate. https://kate-editor.org/
Full tree of open documents, session management, seemingly infinite undo history, handles all languages blah blah it's awesome.
Haven't found anything better for the types of projects i'm working on.

There are lots of settings in Notepad++ that you can adjust. I turned off auto complete stuff because its typically more trouble than its worth.

Have either of you ever tried VI or Emacs? How did it go? I'm on windows. Is the Kate preview what you use?

I personally dont like Vi. If im on linux i will use Nano over Vi. Vi is EXTREMELY powerful IF you know what your doing. Things like i pressed a key and all of a sudden i am increment the number it was on. I was trying to type or something and it was doing that. I also struggled to figure out how to close the application (linux)...

I think i tried it out and realized it was just as painful. Notepad++ takes care of all the stuff i need for a basic text editor. If the project is larger thats where Visual Studio comes in. I have not had to do java in a bit, but i know for sure the next time i use it, i will NOT be using eclipse.
