Today in my ITGS class, Information Technology in a Global Society, we were assigned a large project that has to implicate technology in one way or another. This class is a higher level high school class, but most of the kids in my class couldn't even install firefox, if they even knew what it is. This means my teacher has relativly low expectations.

The example given of a past project turned in was a confusing project from a German kid who wrote it in bad english about advertising a golf course or something :***:, my teacher admitted it got a bad score, so I don't know why she handed it out.

I thought I had a pretty good idea, and this might have been done before, to make a database for kitchen supplies, mainly food. The sole purpose would be for it to store what food you buy that has a shelf life (goes stale, rots, gets moldy etc.) and also cooking ingredients such as flour, sugar, and spices. I also think it would interesting if it could tell you possible recipes that you could make given the food you have in the house. I know there are flaws in this, and it would take a lot to make it useful enough to sell it.

This seems like it would be simple enough , but I have no idea where to start. I have a long time to work on it, so I also have time to learn. My programming skills are lacking, and I have no idea what software I could use. Things such as interface, pictures, or any other superficial things do not matter. I am comfortable with excel, but I don't think I can accomplish my goals with it.

I am need of any helpful input, even if you just want to tell me I am over my head, or if you know exactly what I need to get started.

I plan to keep this thread going until I finish the project, whatever it turns out to be.

I know with the help of my fellow overclock.net friends I can't lose.

Hmm... I dunno...excel can do some pretty amazing things, with macros I'm pretty sure you can link certain ingredients to certain recipes. granted that'd be quite difficult. lol don't ask me how to use macros, I'm 17, and I took a couple of business computer apps classes, and learned a bit about excel.

After all these years I still haven't come up with something worthwhile to put in this area.

Do you have access to visual basic? If so you are able to make databases in it and thats what you would make it search in for the possible recipes with given ingredients.

Come on Louis I've got lives to save.
