So after UPS lost my old G55, they finally refunded the money after 2 months. I'm about the place an order for a G55VW-DH71. Getting the IC Diamond + 12GB RAM upgrade from XoticPC. Might get the Crucial 128GB mSSD if it fits my budget.

Any idea when the next iteration of the G series will be released, anything this year?

Also how is the GPU overclocking potential of the G55?
Can you post some pics? How is the sound volume, enough to watch a movie with a friend or 2? Also were you able to figure out how to OC the GPU ?

Hi,

Yes I did manage to overclock the GPU it was actually quite easy. I made a small .bat script forcing it into P8 state.

nvidiaInspector.exe -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2,1190 -setMemoryClock:0,2,2800 -forcepstate:0,0

Thats my current overclock, and when I want to go back to normal mode I click another .bat file which contains

nvidiaInspector.exe -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2,705 -setMemoryClock:0,2,2500 -forcepstate:0,16

The sound is a little bit tinny but it is very loud, definitely loud enough for a movie. And once you configure some of the settings in the VIA audio deck then you can get it to sound a lot better.

Check out this post for the settings. http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?20220-SOUND-settings-my-sound-settings-on-G75&highlight=sound

Also you can unlock the BIOS and the GPU bios to overvolt or have even more options available to you should you so desire. Temps are really really great on this machine and the fan noise is very minimal, I have not even had the system run it's fans at full speed even with my overclock applied. I will post some pics in a sec, got bad lighting inside.

I think people need to forget about logos and evaluate products based on how it meets their personal needs. If you do that - you can't go wrong.

That is a camera effect eheh. The laptop has a really nice texture and it;s very hard to get the laptop dirty, everything is matte on the laptop except the Asus logos.

Placed the order, got the upgrade to 12GB RAM, IC Diamon TIM on CPU and GPU, and the 128 GB Crucial M4 mSSD. it's going to be a little delayed because the mSSD was out of stock and they're shipping it in. Should have it in a week or two. Cant wait! xD

Ooh awesome combo, I wanted a MSata ssd and I could put one in myself now but then I would break my warranty so maybe when my warranty is up I will do that. good that you decided to go for one though! Also the IC diamond will give you a nice temp drop from the stock paste. Let me know what kind of temps you get when you receive it thumb.gif The stock temps are very good already so I'm curious how much lower yours will be

So I finally got my G55 a few weeks ago, and it's just an amazing machine. I ended up getting the Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD in the primary HDD bay and removed the Optical Drive and put in a HDD caddy which now housing the existing 500GB HDD.

Here are some pictures and a video of it booting off the SSD. Album
