Well, I'm a hipster

Just picked up a 2012 Macbook pro,

i7 @ 2.6
8gb ram
gt 650m
256gb ssd
15" retina @ 2880x1800

I'm not 100% sure how it came to this but I think I delved too deep into the darker side of youtube. My plan is to test it out, learn the os and then sell it down the road. I picked it up on a good enough deal that I should be able to break even or make a few bucks when all is done.

Wish me luck!

Not sure what it has to do with being a "hipster" but w/e.

There was some noise about lack of Nvidia drivers for Mac OS Mojave recently. But I think it was only for new GPUs, so your MBP should update without issues. Probably last OS upgrade for our 2012 machines though.

I don't know. Guess I always have an image in my head of the typical mac user wearing a beanie with a funny mustache sitting in a coffee shop.

Yeah that's what I gathered. Should run the latest os. Unless I fall in love with it I don't think I'll have it around long enough to worry about future os so I'll take the most recent one.

I'm looking forward to testing it when it gets here. Going to hit up some productivity tasks, run some games that it will play and just mess about in the os. Also looking forward to seeing the screen quality. Should be fun.

Not sure about falling in love, but 2012 macs do tend to hold on pretty well. My 2012 MacBook Air is certainly refusing to die. MBP should hold on even longer since you have a decent GPU, RAM and screen. SSD is upgradeable as well but it's that stupid proprietary format afaik. Apple still should have replaceable batteries for 2012 macs, no stock for 2011 though.

The specs on the machine seem pretty respectable so I'm guessing it should do well for most of what I'd use it for. Would of been nice to catch the 512gb ssd but I really won't need much drive space for what I'll be using it for. From the seller description there shouldn't be issues with the battery though you never know.

So I received the Mac.

First, it's in really great condition but, whoever packed it manged to stick the packaging adhesive to the bottom of it.

Second, the listing says it's a 2.6 GHz i7 but it's really a 2.3 GHz i7.

I've contacted the seller. I'll see if they want to do a return for a full refund (shipping and all) or maybe I'd be willing to keep it if they give me a partial refund. I think I can clean the adhesive up and I can live with a 2.3 GHz i7 if the price is right.

I'll have to say that I have doubts about the seller not being aware that the system was really a 2.3 GHz i7 but other then that the system is in such good condition that I'm willing to play ball if it benefits me.

Yeah maybe it's the pc user in me but that's the image in my head of a mac user.

My personal interest in them is to work on them. Though I've never owned one so I figured a good spot to start was picking one up to learn my way around the os.

It's their password not mine.

I'm not changing anything on the system until I hear back from them.
