Looking for a Laptop Upgrade for my Wife

What is your maximum budget?
$500, ideally cheaper if possible

What country are you in?
USA

What will be the uses of this laptop?
Internet browsing, some streaming, mostly classwork for grad-school right now

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
Nope

What screen size do you require?
15.6"

What screen resolution do you require?
1080p or better

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
Used is fine, though new is preferred

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)
4 hours max is probably fine. Usually plugged in, but occasionally she wants to be mobile

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
Minesweeper - Ultra high, AAx8, 200FPS

What operating system do you need? (if any)
Windows 10 - see anything else section

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
Likely black, but not picky

How much hard drive space do you need?
500gb - see anything else section

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
Decent WiFi, HDMI or DVI for an extra 1080p monitor used at home.

Is there anything else we need to know
Currently have an Inspiron 3520 with Pentium 980. Hoping for an upgrade to a middling/decent quad core. If I can get a cheaper laptop that is upgradable (RAM/drives) or barebones, I can swap out an HDD or add in her current SSD (500gb) that already has Windows 10 on it. 16gb of ram I'm guessing would be fine, though I'm open to opinions. Nothing special needed for graphics.

HP X360 comes in around that # for some models.

I just changed out my big boy HP ryzen laptop for an i3 16gb 1tb NVMe HP x360, no regrats yet I just wish I could get my employer to order us the blacked out x360 variant. So sexy looking. I don't even need the bigger processor. There's almost zero point in an I7 in a work laptop for 99% of folks, including me, someone who works in the IT dept. Hell, we just stick our devs in VMs now, so they don't need power houses either.

(as a work device the i3 is a far superior device due to form factor, & wireless lifespan... the big boy AMD was just a mobile desktop with not enough iGPU horsepower to make it worth having an iGPU.)

R.I.P. Zawarudo, may you OC angels' wings in heaven.
If something appears too good to be true, it probably is.

Thanks skupples! That gives me a little bit of a direction if nothing else. It definitely looks like some decent specs for the cost.

Asus Vivbooks, Lenovo Thinkpads, Samsung Notebook 5/7/9 all might fit the bill, been looking at similar spec'd laptop for my dads friend. She has a focus on lightweight though, but at a similar-ish price range.

I will definitely look into those!

Has anyone had any experience with Aspire E 15 E5-576-392H? It looks like the cheapest with a decent CPU. I have some extra RAM (8gb) and will swap out the 1TB HDD for my 500GB Samsung 870 Evo. I think with those upgrades it would be an awesome buy for $329.99 on Amazon, but if anyone has had negative experiences, let me know!
