Breaking it clean with page 101 biggrin.gif.

I've actually got some velcro and mounted it to the back of the motherboard tray. I went all out with my cable management for front and back of the case, so there's plenty of room now. I might use a more 'permanent' yet stronger velcro for a more secure fit, and cleaner look. The benefit to this method is that you don't have any SATA data or power cables crossing over that empty gap between the motherboard tray and the drive trays.

I've thought about getting an external case for my BD drive, as well as for my HDDs to kinda push myself closer to going custom WC and having a ton of space in the front of the case...but that's just a glimpse of a thought at the moment.

I have used (still using!) a 550D in a previous build, and really liked it.

https://www.overclock.net/t/1256647/corsair-550d-owners-club/80#post_17639341

So I decided to use one again on a new build. Almost looks like a "how much stuff can you stuff in a 550D challenge", but it works well. I'm going to use the blank side panel off my previous 550D build for the vent side on this one, mount a couple of 140mm exhaust fans a little further forward than the indented stock location, that indentation interferes with the rear 140 rad.

I have posted the pics of the top panel mod I did in another thread, just cut the center out of the solid panel and glued some flat black sprayed screen in it, just looks a little cleaner than leaving the panel off.

My opinions the top layout for fans is one of the flaws in the D550. Its should have more options or be off center a little to allow room for the board . Also the front door hinges. I fit a H105 in the top of mine but its not mounted in the stock holes

Just a couple of my rigs

Yeah, mine's off center, too. You can over spring the hinges on one side to make the front panel a little easier to open, but I went ahead and cut an opening in there for the Blu Ray drive to stick through the front. Now I only open it to clean the filter. I'll take some pics of the front and side panel mods directly.

Guys I apologize for posting in the 550d club. I still dont have a 550d build. But I am interested though and as such I have questions. I hope someone can assist me.

My current system is:
I5 4690k
Maximus 7 gene
Corsair 350d matx
Seasonic 850w
16gb hyperx fury
2 gtx 980's in sli

My problem is about the temp of my current system. In sli both cards have like 3mm gap between them, this causes the top card to heat up to 85-91c while the bottom remains relatively cool at 60ish degrees. I have spent the past 2-3 weeks looking for an aircooled solution to no avail. Everyone I ask points me to get watercooling. I am not ready to go into this primarily becuase of the costs involved.

Now I see an option to change mobo and case to atx.

My question is if i change my case to the obsidian 550d(it has 2 slots for side fans btw) and retain my gene 7 matx mobo and sli two gpu's, will the gpu temps go down as there is a sidefan to help with the cooling? And if so, is this a practical long term solution? I want to save as much as possible but not to the point of compromising future performance or temp problems.

TL:DR
Will obsidian 550d case help my temps on matx motherboard in sli with the cards on top of each other.

It looks like you have aftermarket GPU's rather than reference (i.e. slot blowing coolers). In this case, your cards are pulling air from below and using that to cool the card. If I am correct about the coolers, than a fan from the bottom or the sides can potentially help. Watercooling or even replacing them with reference blowers are kinda your two options for 'optimal flow'.

However, that's not viable for everyone. Also, as much as I like the 550D, it's not really a 'max airflow' designed case. It sits more on the side of people who want a more silent PC. It's possible to take out drive cages and outfit fans everywhere, but then you're kinda shooting yourself in the foot as you're taking away features, and you're adding noise to a fairly quiet case. What is your budget for a new case?
