First time posting to OC.net so cheers.gif

I picked up the 550D over a year ago when I wanted to brush the rust off my computer-building skills (built my first PC with a 286 processor just to give you an idea of how long ago that was). However, I allowed 6 years of rust to accumulate on my skills. It isn't exactly like riding a bike, but things turned out pretty good fairly fast.... parts suppliers have come a long way!

Anyway, the 550D is fantastic for quiet good looks. You all know this.

My 2013 build:
  • i5-3570K
  • Corsair H100i
  • Sabertooth Z77
  • 16GB 1866 MHz Corsair Vengeance
  • 256GB Samsung 840 Pro
  • 2TB WD Caviar Black
  • Asus GTX Titan 6GB
  • Corsair HX1050 (but was DOA, so got a refund and went back to an older 1000w Corsair from another build)
  • 4x Corsair SP120 High Performance fans
  • 2x Corsair AF140 Quiet fans
  • 3x Asus VS248H-P 24" 1080P Monitors

The Sabertooth decided to die, so I'm now working on my 2014 build with some improvements:
  • i7-4790K
  • Maximus VII Hero
  • 16GB 1600MHz Corsair Dominator Platinum
  • Corsair AX1200i PSU to replace that old one
  • Some red cables to clean things up with inside the case

I'll post some photos after the new PSU and cables arrive and are installed.

Overall, I wanted to post today to say thank you to everyone in this thread. I've been lurking this thread for a while looking at better ways to set up my 550D thumb.gif

Finally got the rig back together and snapped some images. The old theme was blue, but now it is red on the inside and blue on the outside.

I'm having some issues with Titan, so it may be time to switch to a pair of cards to begin using some of that 1200i overhead.

Looks good. I'm currently starting to sleeve some cables to add some 'pop' to my case. Hoping it turns out as good as I imagined redface.gif.

Some new images and improvements. Added another Titan and Creative ZXR, so I've pretty much maxed out the cards I can squeeze in this case with that huge PSU. Also switched from a Klipsch 2.1 computer speaker system to a tuner + floor speakers + sub woofer. I have to say this new audio setup is amazing!

Cooling has been very decent. Unless I'm stress testing, I don't see GPU temps breaking 70 degrees....up a good 10 degrees with the additional card. Typically there is a 10 to 30 degree temp difference between the two graphics cards, according toe SpeedFan.

The Corsair 550D is excellent for keeping with the cleanliness I try to maintain.

Rig and room look great. Are you planning on putting the speakers on stands? It'll probably sound even better, then thumb.gif.

I'm with pez, raise those speakers to ear level. Speakers are very directional, yours are too low and blocked by the desk. Other than that, the setup of the room is is awesome! I'm a big fan. smile.gif

That is a great looking build, I love the idea of putting the HDD cage under the optimal drive, I have a question if you are good with answering it, how exactly did you secure/mount the HDD in there?

I plan to finally sort out my cable management in the next few days and I would love to mount my HDD cage where you did to allow for better airflow from the front fans.

Thanks.

In case I may be of any help, you could go with simply getting some velcro strips for the purpose of keeping the drive in place, rather than 'bolted down'. It would be a viable choice if you weren't moving your PC around a lot. Another alternative is 3M Dual Locking strips. it's somewhat of a 'plastic velcro' that is spec'ed to hold up to 3lb per square inch. It's very good stuff.

Thanks.

It was a pain in the butt, but I was able to use zip ties to get the cage to stay put. I wish I had paid more attention to temps and been more methodical about things. Unfortunately I can't say whether this helps to cool things at all because I made a lot of changes when I moved the cage.

Curious to hear if the velcro route actually works.

As for those floor speakers, sure, I could raise them. They sound pretty good as they are though.
