Finally officially joining the club, got myself a UMX3.

Its not quite as pretty in the inside as it is on the outside, but it isn't windowed, so meh.

As you can see, I had to get a little "creative" with the SSD's, in favor of bottom fans.

I'm currently looking at upgrading my rendering workstation and the UMX4 and U5 cases caught my eye. Anyone here know if a U5 would fit 3 gpus, specifically 3x RX580s? Or will the bottom gpu interfere with the fans? Cheers

I have a U5, I have no idea if you could fit 3 GPUs though. I guess it depends on the model and cooler. The U5 is smaller than the UMX4.

My thought is that they should allow for mounting ATX motherboards 1 slot higher in this case,
most motherboards only seems to use 6 slots anyway so it's only 6 extra mountingholes and a larger backplate hole away.

Maybe a simple mod would allow radiators, larger bottom graphiccards or 140mm bottom fans.

I'm gonna try jamming an EVGA X79 Dark into a U5. It is only 0.7 inches wider than a regular ATX mobo and looking at THUMPEr1's pic on the previous page it looks like theres enough room for it to hang over without getting in the way of the wire holes tooo much. I did a little playing and I think the edge will be dead center of the wire hole. The connectors on that board are all right angle, even the 24 pin, so that might be a problem but I might also be able to just buy a right angle adapter off ebay which would send it straight through that hole and hook the cable into it that way. Who knows, not exactly in a time crunch so I'll piece it together and see what happens

My alternative was the In Win 909 but then I saw the $500 price.....that aint happening lol

There's also the 904 Plus for ~€140, but that has even worse airflow than the already terrible 909, so I'm not sure I'd recommend that.

I looked at the 904 but I didn't think it could fit that extra 0.7 inch. I didn't know anything about the airflow sucking, guess it's a good thing I didn't try and make it work.

The U5 is great. My only complaint is the limit to CPU cooler height. I went through about 4 before I stayed on the Noctua UH12S

It can fit coolers up to 160mm right? Quite a few of the best coolers are under that limit, while it's tight, it shouldn't be an issue to get a higher performance cooler in there.

Like:
  • Phanteks PH-TC14PE
  • Thermalright Le Grand Macho RT
  • Noctua NH-D15S
  • Scythe Mugen 5
  • Thermalright Silver Arrow T8
  • Scythe Fuma 2
