Thanks to this platform, I just lost a huge private message that I typed up for someone (it was a really good PM too). It seems to me that I lost it due to timing out while typing it (meaning that I was automatically logged out after like 15 minutes or whatever). I have never had to worry about this before! I was even able to preview it just before sending! But, clicking send simply refreshed the PM page, obviously showing that I had just logged in by clicking Send - except my message wasn't sent, AND I HAD LOST EVERYTHING THAT I HAD TYPED! Clicking 'Back' didn't work either.

So, thanks.

This is why whenever I am typing a particularly long post/PM, every few minutes/lines, I copy/paste everything into a word doc or similar. This is a regular practice no matter what site I'm on. This kind of thing has happened to me way to often to not practice this method.

You might be saying, "well what aobut that whole 'draft saved' thing at the bottom?!" Well, you know the old addage... if you want something done right, do it yourself.

If you're going to dump on someone's ideas, at least have some good ones of your own.

Notepad++ is all I have to say.

I stopped using the respond field for my ticket system at work because it times out as well, much safer just to use notepad++

Make it a habit.

Or just type the long post into a text editor or word doc and then copy it over. I never rely on browser. For work I often have to enter things into Quality Center...which is a webapp. I always type it in word and copy it over. Then I can have the power of a true word processor for formatting the text and such too.

I'd recommend Textarea Cache. Couldn't live without it.

Yep, I do this as well. thumb.gif

I have a big bang house. I had all the materials for my new house brought in and dumped on a vacant lot. I took a stick of dynamite, lit the fuse on fire and tossed it into the pile of materials. BOOM went the explosion and when the dust settled I had a new house! Amazing isn't it?

Sigh. Weren't any of you reading my OP? I HAVE NEVER HAD TO DEAL WITH THIS BEFORE. EVER. I used to be able to spend all the time I wanted on a PM and then just send it. Sending it would automatically log me back in and send it!

Do you see what I'm saying now? THIS IS NEW.

Man. I didn't think that I would have to spell it out like that.

Are you new here? Hi. I'm TwoCables! I am known for typing giant posts and for sending giant PMs. Nice to meet you.

Heh. Yeah, your question really irritates me. Why the hell are you asking? Y'know?! It's like, what the hell business is it of yours? What's it to you?
