I've mentioned this a few times in the past, but I never thought about making a thread when it's happening. So, I'm doing that right now. OCN is slow for me right now. It's a game of Click & Wait, and the "wait" part is a matter of waiting for the server to reply. I click, and then I wait a couple of minutes or more. Sometimes I even get that "Something has gone wrong!" page.

This isn't a constant slowness either. Sometimes I click and I don't have to wait at all. At this time of the day/night depending on where you are in the world, the server takes way too long to reply and it only sometimes replies instantly.

So, I've had enough. I want to know if others are experiencing this too. It happens to me in all of my browsers, so I know it's not specific to any single browser.

heh

Edit: I got this after waiting about 2 minutes for the server to reply when I submitted this thread:

Quote:

Please try again!

Something has gone wrong! Please refresh the page or try again later.

Tech support has been notified of the problem.

So, I opened OCN in a new tab to check to see if this thread actually got posted, and yes it did (only, I had to wait a good 45 seconds for the server to reply).

I'm getting extremely sick of this.

If I remember properly this is around the time automated nightly DB backups occur, and the hardware being stressed to hell and back by that. Keep in mind Huddler's servers are actually better than our old ones, so it should say something that doing this still comes close to seizing the whole site at random for a few hours each night/morning (and yes, I get hit by random periods of nothing loading, too). It's worth pointing out that we had a lot more problems with the database in our late vBulletin days, so we're actually in better shape now. Unfortunately there isn't much we can do about this, given that it's not a bug (thus not software-related) and just a case of the hardware having a hard time with what it's supposed to be doing. If it gets upgraded, I'm sure we'll notice without being told.
