I will allow VS to comment on this directly, while I do share the concerns I am not 100% Savvy as to the system setup with threadloom and it would be inappropriate for me to comment on some of the questions posed.

We also send emails through amazon and mail gun, that does not mean we are giving amazon your email information. We use Aria as a vendor management system, Aria doesn't have access to vendor data unless we authorize their people to access it. Similar to that and hosting servers such as Softlayer and Google Cloud Threadloom gives us a search and mail server that we control. It will be weekly for now though that will be revisited after the initial evaluation. Opt in versus Opt out was a call made by the upper management and I'm not ad liberty to speak to their reasoning however as I said I'm working with Enterprise to get the proper list of in vs out from the monthly setting to make sure that status is honoured so I can only ask that you bear with me in the mean time.

Kyle

Yeah, well upper management can just stuff it. It's a despicable practice and they should be ashamed of themselves. Sadly, the way this was so badly handled is what I have come to expect from VS.

More pertinently, could those affected name the options they had enabled in their profiles? So the rest of us may be informed please?

(asking because initially i had everything at default, hadn't even occured to me that along with the change settings would be reverted; mail from administrators for example was 'on', along with everything else. Even so, i seem to have escaped this somehow)

Pride, honour and purity.

Only thing I had was ->

X Receive Email from Administrators

Can't think of anything else that would affect this. Wonder if your simply hasn't gotten there or went into spam.

Pretty annoying getting an email from another company. It is basically one thing that really ticks people off and makes them leave a site, so it might achieve the opposite of the objective.

Of course every morning when I load this site, it comes up as a blank page due to lack of https support so getting an email from a site I hadn't interacted since it broke its https was pretty strange too.

I got the same newsletter as well.

If it hasn't been already been mentioned here, it probably should be noted that the EU's GDPR stipulates that those doing business with EU citizens from May 25 forward will abide by the GDPR's stipulations from May 25 forward, or risk a maximum penalty of $25 million Euros per incident (each breach of one individual's privacy as defined by the GDPR amounts to one incident).

While similar provisions have not yet been finalized here in the U.S., there has been talk of establishing them here; thus far much of that talk has been speculative in nature, but there is what follows which was introduced on the 10th of this month:

Senators introduce bill creating a 'privacy bill of rights'
The 'CONSENT' Act would have the FTC enforce regulation around personal info.

Text of the bill (yet to be published on congress.gov)

The bill's location on congress.gov:
S.2639 - A bill to require the Federal Trade Commission to establish privacy protections for customers of online edge providers, and for other purposes.

i just had to take a class on that for work. The GDPR is legit. You can't even use a US based cloud service to house European customer data without specific measures being taken.
