Help with slow wifi 72 mbps on 300 mbps adapter

So I have a Dell XPS L502X with a Intell Centino Wireless-N 1000 that should be able to do 300 mbps. My connection is 75 mbps (see attached) with a actual file transfer speed of 10 mbps.

I have a new router in the form of a Asus ACHR-1300 (RT-AC58U) in wireless router mode on the newest firmware (3.0.0.4.382_51899).

Just installed the windows 8.1 x64 Intel PROSet/Wireless Software v18.40.4. I'm running windows 10 pro x64 updated on the laptop

What do you expect for Wi-Fi?

Have you tried using different channels or settings on your router at all?

Did you do a hardline test to compare results?

Why are you still using windows 8.1?

I've seen this plenty of times before. It's a driver issue. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like intel provided a driver past win 8.1. I've seen Windows 10 run on a lunch box with no problems, but it looks like you lucked out. Also, remember that using wireless never actually guarantees you maximum rated speed. There are way too many factors that can impede performance. My suggestion is to return this adapter to where you bought it and pick up an AC wireless card that is Windows 10 ready.

Just because it is close by does not mean the connection will be good. When advertised at 300Mbps it needs to meet very specific requirements.

Distance, Channels, Noise, Interference, Reflection etc

Do you have a mobile? Bluetooth device? Cordless phones? Microwave oven?

There are so many things that can affect your wireless performance

Also keep in mind, that anything that takes a voltage will degrade over time and wireless is no different

Is your router set to use a 40mhz channel width. If it is set to 20mhz then 70mbs sounds about right. So try forcing the router to use 40.
