I don't crunch SETI but hopefully this will be of use

Memory overclocks look to actually benefit SETI. In linux the P2 compute state has a -400mhz offset so when one task completes your memory clock goes up by 400 mhz when the GPU goes back to stock clocks in P0. That can be too much for memory so there is a script to keep the GPU in the P2 state at all times. An example would be P2 stock clock of 7600 MHz + 1000MHz OC would be 8.6GHz in P2 then 9GHz when a task completes then back to 8.6GHz when a task starts again.

I haven't tried it yet but I haven't pushed to 9GHz yet and I'm running 2x tasks so I don't come out of P2 often. This is of course for Pascal cards. Maxwell cannot OC memory in Linux but those can be flashed with a memory OC anyway.

Hi,

Here : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Jl...CotED4Z9yUmkwn is an utility to keep yopur card at P2 state.

I have problems overclocking since overclocking 1080, 1080Ti and VOLTA affects both P0 and P2 states. These cards can not be locked to P0 in linux.

When CUDA compute workload finishes the card jumps to P0 and crashes. Now with this program running there is always a compute work load in the background. The program runs a simple GPU kernel 10 times per second and keeps the driver thinking something is being calculated and thus keeps the card at P2. The performance hit is negligible. Now you can overclock.

To run this program in the background start it with
[pre]./keepP2 device=N &[/pre]
and replace N with your gpu id.

I run
./keepP2 device=0 &
./keepP2 device=1 &
./keepP2 device=2 &
./keepP2 device=3 &
to make all four cards to stay at P2.

Good find, and thanks for the links.

I never really dug into the optimized apps, but one of the settings in the config is to load more data into vRAM. Seeing the benefit of the larger working sets in memory it makes sense that memory OCs would benefit SETI.

I've only run the custom apps w/o any extra configs. There is very poor instructions for any of that and info is found randomly on the forums. I did read that one of the benefits of the custom apps was fewer memory accesses.

With as popular as SETI is, it seems like there would be a better source of info, but it really is scattered all over various forums.

I haven't gone through really any of the documentation, but from what I could find in the readme that is shipped with the optimized app for Linux, it looks like most of the optimizations have to do with memory allocation and buffer size.

@mmonnin are you using the CUDA 9.0 app from this post: https://arkayn.us/forum/index.php?msg=4499

Yes, 2x on the 1070 and 1070Ti and 1x on the 970. 2x on the 970 instantly error'd every task since 2.3GB of vram is used per task and it only has 4GB.

Great thread, I totally copied that XML file for my two machines.. one AMD, and one Nividie...
But I see this is a year old.. are you still running these setttings, or have you further refined the xml..

How bout an update!..
