are there any mobos that have the cpu header NOT PWM by default?

Remember the golden rule of statistics: A personal sample size of one is a sufficient basis upon which to draw universal conclusions.
Upload the computer to Dropbox and provide a link to it so others may download it to examine and give advice for repairs.

typically that's the one port that is ACTUALLY true PWM. I hear its gotten a lot better in the last few generations though.

My X79 RIVBE is covered in not actually PWM 4 pin headers.

Raise the minimum rpm line to 60% and straight line it to max.

That should get the pump rpm's to 3600rpm and work off temperature to max rmp at about 4800.
Pump ports are weird they just plop the rpm to max just like not having the pwm plug connected to the board at all just like when filling the loop.

Just note which fan port you use to monitor with hwinfo.

CPU port on the board should have fans hooked to it
Do not use a mother board AIO port for a D5 pump.
so the pump header intended for aio use? or are there actual "AIO" ports too?

I rarely use anything on my board, just a CPU header, and USB line to Aquaero

Hi,
I give the boards cpu port a couple fans just to keep it happy assist or cpu optional.

D5 I'd use a channel fan port and adjust it's manual rpm like I said for a minimum rpm at around 35-3600.

All other radiator.. fans I use a fan controller for.

It doesn't work with the pump completely unplugged from the motherboard... why does everyone keep suggestion messing with BIOS? How would the fan/pump header settings do anything if the pump is not plugged into it?!

When plugged into the motherboard the power supply does not provide power on the molex, this is not totally insane. When shorted none of the power lines are connected but when plugged into the motherboard all the 12V/5V/3V lines are connected. If there is a short or something it could drop the voltage on or even disable the molex connector. Not common and somewhat scary but it is not not insane. Try another power supply. With a voltmeter I would check the pins of the motherboard with the power supply connected to see if there is a voltage drop. I suspect a short somewhere related to the motherboard.

EK D5 pumps have two connectors....the 4 pin molex connector has just 2 wires for 12V power. The 4 pin fan connector has two wires at pins 3 & 4. Pin 3 is RPM and pin 4 is PWM signal....not sure how you diagnose a PWM D5 pump, but plugging it to 12v molex only will power it up. It will default to a set RPM if there is no PWM signal, which is why I stated, it makes no sense that the pump works when the PSU 24 pin is jumped, but doesn’t when connected to the mobo, because once the PSU is on, there’s 12V to the molex connectors and everything on moles connectors is powered up.

Right.

1) The pump is only plugged into the 12V molex.
2) With the power supply unpluged from the motherboard (but jumped so it will turn on) the pump turns on.
3) With the power supply plugged into the motherboard the pump does not turn on.

Changing BIOS settings for fan headers is not going to help and we need to investigate the power supply and/or motherboard because the power supply should be providing 12V to the pump in both situations.

agreed, assuming that the header he's using isn't off by default, then its not the BIOS. RPM/power would at least spin up the pump.

Are you 100% sure you fully clipped the 24 pin in, and all other motherboard power accessories?

as stated above, do you have an additional power supply, or motherboard to test with?

All he has to do is a voltage drop on the molex connector when the PSU is on with. DVOM. I’ve only seen known good pumps not run when there’s 12v at the molex connector due to a backed out or poor pin connection at the molex connector itself. Unless something shorted out the 12v rail, I don’t see the pump being the only thing not working when on.

There is no header involved at all, why bring it up? The molex connector is from the power supply. Let's keep it simple.

Hi,
Sounds like a mother board problem
As said trying another power supply would rule that out but about the only two items that can be the problem is psu or mobo.
