I've gone down the rabbit hole of confusion - Should I just do some upgrades or build a new shiny PC.

This all started with me wanting to get the 1080 Ti and a 1440p 144Hz Monitor. I like competitive FPS and want all the frames I can get. My concern is bottlenecking the 1080 Ti in new titles with my current CPU. I want to MAX most games out.

My current build:
  • 1080p IPS 60hz 24inch
  • Asus Z97 Mobo
  • i5 4690K @ 4.6 Ghz
  • 8GB DDR3 2133Mhz
  • GTX 780 3GB
  • 750 Watt

Intended upgrades:
  • 1080p IPS 60hz 24inch
    1440p 144Hz 27 Inch IPS
  • Asus Z97 Mobo
  • i5 4690K @ 4.6 Ghz
  • 8GB DDR3 2133Mhz
    16GB DDR3 2400Mhz
  • GTX 780 3GB
    GTX 1080 Ti
  • 750 Watt

New Build instead?
Shiny new case, X99 Mobo, Kaby Lake, DDR4... I will go all out I don't mind.

If I do all those upgrades and MAYBE get a used i7 Haswell (to stop any bottleneck)... I might as well just build a WHOLE new shiny PC and sell my current one.

Things putting me off:
  1. The selling part,
  2. Migrating All my precious FPS game configs and data
  3. Idea of building from scratch/cable management.
  4. Rooms a mess, nowhere to showcase pretty new equipment, just crappy desk.

Thoughts? Help please smile.gif

You won't bottleneck the Ti with that overclocked CPU.
