It's been a good few years since I have done any sort of case mod. Ever since Syrillians passing I haven't really had any drive or desire to do another one until now. Without him I wouldn't have ever gotten into case modding but his words of inspiration and helpfulness helped me to give it a try.

This is not going to be a case mod with new parts or anything special. It is simply taking something old, used, and forgotten turning it into something new, clean and usable.

I found a interesting looking case at one of local thrift stores and decided to pick it up for $10. Here are the pictures after I gutted it:

In this picture you can see where the case is stained from being in a smoking environment, nasty:

Inside I found some rather interesting hardware, of course this is after I cleaned all the filthy smoker dust and tar off of them.

Hardware inside:
MSI 850 Pro5 motherboard with 1.6GHz Pentium 4
A full 2GB set of Rambus Ram
Radeon 9600XT
Network card
56k Modem

Here's where it gets interesting

Seagate Cheetah 10K.7 74GB HDD
Adpatec SCSI card
SCSI cable which I have taken the liberty of rounding with cable ties
DVD/CDRW combo drive
Floppy Drive

Next is the filthy PSU which has 3 bulging caps in it and I am just going to flip the fan out of and discard.

Front portion sides sanded ready for paint:

Painted:

Front painted and ready for reassembly:

Reassembled:

Close up of USB port/audio ports:

Back painted, had to glue the front panel on as I had to hollow out the holes for it to pop back in due to the paint:

Since this case had no fans in it and 4 spots for 80mm fans, so I picked these up:

With the empty 3.5 bay spot in the front, something has to take the old floppy drives place, so I picked up a card reader:

Disassembeled for paint:

Painted:

Fans and card reader installed:

Panels sanded and ready for paint:

Painted panels:

Stencil printed out from Rasterbator and glued to poster board to give more rigidity:

Stencil cut out and back out lined with sticky tack to hold the stencil in place and keep the paint where it needs to go:

Applied ready for paint:

Final product painted, pin stripped and clear coated. There is a bit of wrinkling on the red paint due to the fact that I applied the clear coat too early, I have learned from this mistake and will take better precautions continuing on.

I am disappointed in your shameless self-advertisement to draw us here, but this looks like a neat project. What are you going to do with the rest of the hardware?

I plan on reusing the SCSI HDD in my storage computer. The 9600XT is going to replace the FX 5500 in my P4 478 retro gaming PC. Rest of the hardware is installed in another one of my modded cases till I get around to deciding what to do with it.

Lots of work has been done, posts 3 and 4 updated.

I am certainly subbed to this.

Wanting to see moar! What else are you going to do? I'm curious, I always enjoy seeing an old case being "revived" with some nice mods.

Man... I miss Syr and his unbelievable cases...

Keep up the good work Aslan. :thumb:
