BUILD EXPLANATION

Modding PCs is a hobby that sucks a lot of money. Being a student, I don't really have a lot of money to spend.
So for this mod, don't expect a lot of overkill components.
One of my friends is working in a waste disposable (Swiss people sort their waste). Electronic waste is growing, also because of the growing number of people that owns electronic stuff.
Anyway, back on the topic! Everyday evening during 2 weeks, I was visiting this electronic waste center, hoping to find some stuff I can further use. My patience was worth the time spender in the waste center! I was able to find more than 150 working electronic pieces, including 4 Eheim 1048 water pumps, a lot of 120 rads, some weird waterblocks (HDD, CPU, RAM, GPU, MB, etc), more than 2 kilo of fittings and 2-3 reservoirs. But most importantly, I found pretty good electronic components that was in perfect shape.

All of this to say one thing: the majority of this build was found in a waste center, so no costs for it!

CURRENT COST OF THE BUILD:

CHF 68.95
USD 72.02
UK 44.81
EUR 57.04

Discovered Means I've discovered it at the Waster center
Owned Means I received it or owned it for a long time
Bought Means I bought it (thanks Captain Obvious...)

LIST OF UPDATES

Update 1: Pictures of all the components
10.12.2014
Update 1 (Click to show)

My ghetto lightbox
Sorry for the crappy quality of the pictures!

Apple had a good taste back then... DELTA FAAAANS!!!

A perfectly fine Samsung 1TB HDD, discovered in the electronic waste

The motherboard

With a working CPU on it, all of this found in the waste center wheee.gifwheee.gifwheee.gifwheee.gif

Took the heatsinsk off the motherboard, and also took the ugly Gigabyte decoration off it

Also found a XFX 6790, working like it was new. I don't really know it's performance, I am actually more on the "Green Side". But a french proverb say: "Only a donkey won't change his mind even one time" (bad traduction...)

Another thing I've discovered, a nice looking soundcart, perfectly working

GPU cooler

Found 8GB of 1600MHz Corsair XMS DDR3 RAM! yessir.gif

Some heatsinks from the old PowerMac G5 I'll be using

One of the first AIO water-cooling loop sold within the PC, back on 2005!!! Apple had impressive stuff...
The 2 Dual-Core PowerPC 2.5GHz processors are on it.

The PowerMac G5 Was so powerful back then that it was forbidden to sell it on USA's enemies (Irak, Korea, etc)

Alphacool MCX RAM coolers and other pieces, to make my own radiator

The Standart CPU cooler of the non-watercooled PowerMac G5 (using it for the homemade radiator)

Blower-style Delta fan, also from the old PowerMac G5 (PWM FANS!)

The EKWB Supreme LTX I received from a friend smile.gif

Plasti-Dip paint... What can I do with that? I wonder... wheee.gif

A 600W Semi-modular PSU, also discovered

Update 2: GPU air cooler unmount and GPU waterblock cleaning
10.14.2014
Warning: Update 2 (Click to show)

So I bought an used universal GPU block for 20 bucks, but ouch!!! It is really dirty! mad.gif
A lot of oxidation on the outer side... MMhh... Okay...
I should check the interior, just in case...

Well, no surprises, some oxidation on the exterior of the plate too.
But... Wait!!!
blinksmiley.gif

Yes, there a lot of little things in the channels!!!
Let's clean that!

Mhh, better! (the thing in the channel is some water left when I rinsed it)

I took some polish paste and cleaned the block

Soooo shiny now! wubsmiley.gif

Oh, also removed the air cooler of the 6790 and cleaned the dust

Ghetto mod to keep all the screw safe! Yeah, I know, I should buy a little box... tongue.gif

With the GPU waterblock I also received some passive heatsink for the GPU thumb.gif

Update 3: Current state of the build
10.26.2014
Update 3 (Click to show)

Soooo...

Last update for a while. Again, I'm sorry guys sad-smiley-002.gif

As you'll see with the next pictures, the color theme of the build will be mainly white, with light blue and neon green accents. Really no other colors, even on the hardware.

I'll paint it with plasti dip, so I masked the ports. To give you an idea, the card will be all white, but the condensers, the small chips and all the things that won't be flat will be painted either in neon green and light blue. This pattern will also be used on the motherboard and on the GPU

Those waterblocks were sanded and masked, and will be also painted in white, with normal paint.

I took one of the 92mm Delta fans from the G5 to test paint adherence on it (have 8 of them)

I bought some nailbrush for the small part painting

White Block

Tried the neon green on the rings, the blue will be fo the others rings and letters.

As you can see, the paint is not really good, so i'll sand it and paint it again.

So guys, until a long time frown.gif

Have a nice day

Sorry guys, I'm waiting for some components.

I will begin this mod the 18 October, because I have too much work now.
The mod will be done in merely one week, there are just 2-3 components I'm waiting for
