8700K is a better choice imo, after delid you can get much better temps and clocks than soldered 9gen cpus.

why trident z. what speeds does it run and how does that compare to the patriot and how much more would that cost? also, if i delid could i just put that thermal pad on and do direct cooler to die?

because trident z comes with samsung b-die chips. patriot isn't a great brand otherwise. ram speeds is not so important and 3200Mhz should be great.

with delid, just use two drops of liquid metal under IHS. take a look at some YT delid clips.

There seems to be a lot of people having issues with that ram kit with AMD builds. But it should work alright with Intel builds. So you should be fine OP.

patriot ram:
Frequency: 3733MHz (PC4-29800), Timings: 17.21.21.41
Capacity: 16GB (2x8GB)
Voltage 1.35V

$95

(someone with ryzen system: "The best I could get to was 3466mhz at 16-18-18-36-63 with 1.35 volts.")
(someone with intel board: "I would not even boot at anything above 3500MHz. At 340MHz it booted into windows but BOSDed when running a benchmark. At 3300 it booted and finished the benchmark, but a memory error popped-up as I was shutting down.")
(someone with ryzen system: "3466 speed w/15-17-17-35 timings at 1.37V"
even given this, is it still a good value proposition? performance actual: 3466 cas 16 = Calculated nanoseconds: 9.23254472 (is the first number of the cas number listings the number i plug for cas # in the latency calculation?)

vs
corsair dominator 16gb

MHz:3733 CL: 18
Calculated nanoseconds:
9.64371818

$101

vs

gskill tridentz 8gb

MHz:3600 CL: 17
Calculated nanoseconds:
9.44444444

$89

is the patriot still the best option even given what i can obtain as its actual performance for its price?
i canceled my amazon order til i figure this out

Don't bother with B-Die unless you're gonna spend some nights on overclocking the kit, it's the main reason you should get Samsungs. Else the performance difference between 3200 C14/C16 is completely negligible.

i'm willing to take time to overclock the patriot ram as long as i can get at least what others claim, it will still be a better value by far (relatively speaking) (patriot $95 actual ns: 9.23254472 vs $101 9.64371818ns vs $89 9.44444444ns (8gb tho))
taking a step up in price from these three choices is actually a lateral move and the next step up from that is like +$50 which at the price point i've decided to start at would make it a very silly diminishing return proposition

Patriot will not overclock nearly as well as B-Dies.

yes yes i know. i'm saying that at my chosen starting price point, they are still optimal unless i should instead get this 2x4gb corsair dominator platinum at 3733 cl:18 for the same price which has the b-die according to this resource: https://www.hardwareluxx.de/communit...30.html#lstH.B
is it worth it? i understand that patriot isn't b-die and doesn't overclock as well, i'm just saying that at my price point of around $100, it still seems optimal. i'm playing exclusively at 1080p and will use large texture game mods. is 8gb enough? this will be a gaming windowsbox and will not be used to web browse or used for work using large assets or anything like that and will never be used for resolutions above 1080p. (goal is for highest frame rates possible to achieve crt like motion clarity and even when that is achieved i will want to use real time ray tracing at that same frame rate at minimum which means i'm likely locked at 1080p for a long time, assuming persistence based displays will continue to be the future)

edit to say:
patriot is 16gb total, amazon reviews claim to get actual: 3466 cl:16 vs claimed MHz:3733CL:17 and the corsair is 8gb total but is b-die 3733 c18
just for clarification
edit:
oh actually on that list, its for corsair dominator platinum 3733 8gb moduals. they don't have any 4gb moduals listed on there for b-die. is it still likely b-die?

edit:

i can get this corsair psu for the same price as the rosewill, same specs:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16817139210

already ordered the rosewill but if i act fast i can change the order

If you can change it, then indeed change it.

As far as wattage goes You likely will want to double the wattage of your GPU and increase the peak wattage of the PSU. I typically calculate what my components run and then double the GPU draw and get a PSU with pretty sizeable headroom for overall. It let's your PSU run at a constant while not spooling up the fan to cool the unit as much as that Rosewill PSU will no doubt have been doing. I suggest a 750 or 850. I usually look at Corsair, Seasonic or EVGA for PSU options over anybody else.

I'm currently running an EVGA 850w G3 on Black Snow. Should I wish to xFire I will have more than enough headroom and the PSU won't be spooling up all the time.

Edit: The PSU had completely slipped my mind the last time I posted. My soon to be 4 y/o son was bouncing off the walls.
