AI CRYSTAL 2020 - Big Red teardown and rebuild - ft. anidées

Hello all,

This build log will be a place to document and show off a rebuild of my current sig rig, Big Red, that will be taking place soon.

I could go into all the reasons why I am doing this, but to keep it short and sweet, I am very unhappy with my current Corsair 780T case, that is essentially falling apart in numerous places. My custom PSU shroud is damaged, and my custom drive cage covers LEDs are failing. It has a non-removable (unless I want to tear the thing all the way down anyway and punch out rivets) 5 1/4" bay in the top. The front and top removable fan filters have an aluminum front bezel that has to be removed to clean the dust filters, and has little tabs on the aluminum that bend around a plastic frame, and on the front one like 6 out of 8 of these have broken off. Same for the top one. It also has no place for drive mounting for my HDDs except in the ugly, provided drive cage that sits in the bottom front, which prevents things like custom water cooling (front mounted radiator, there's no place for a res either).

The case I have picked and ordered is the anidées AI Crystal AR3 RGB

Sorry for the large image, you can see it better on anidées website here: http://anidees.com/product/ai-crystal-ar3/

As far as components, this is a case swap, but I will also be documenting the teardown and cleaning process, and reassembly into the new case. This will mostly be a pictorial process of my rebuild effort. Benchmarks, etc. probably won't be done and posted, given that they have already been done and are available on my hwbot

All of the components will be identical to what is in my current sig rig, Big Red. The previous build log for Big Red will then be retired.

Current components list, in part:

AMD Ryzen 9 3900X

ASUS Republic of Gamers CROSSHAIR VIII HERO

16GB G.Skill Flare X (Samsung B-Die) DDR4-3200MHz 14-14-14-34 1.35v overclocked to 3800MHz 16-16-16-32-50 1.42v 1T (GDM Off) for gaming. G.Skill Turbulence II White LED RAM fan.

EVGA GTX 1080 ti FTW3 @ 2025/5940MHz in SLI

EVGA RGB SLI High-Bandwidth Bridge

Samsung 970 Evo 512GB M.2 drive (boot)

Samsung 840 Evo SATA III SSD

Western Digital Black 2TB

Western Digital Blue 4TB, Western Digital Blue 6TB

Arctic Cooling Liquid Freezer II 360mm AIO (38mm thick, aluminum) with 3x anidees AI-AUREOLA RGB fans

COOLER MASTER V1000 80+ Gold (Seasonic OEM)
power supply recommended by shilka a very long time ago (sup shilka)

anidées AI CRYSTAL v3/AR3 RGB Midtower

I think that's it for the box.

System performance can be seen on http://hwbot.org/users/neurotix as always but here is Fire Strike and Fire Strike Ultra results

Case review from LTT. The one I'm getting is the newer version with ARGB fans and light strips, but should otherwise be identical.

Yes, I am crazy, so I am putting my computer in crazy, apparently.

I'll take a look at that, lol. No- I don't need new stickers. The ones on my case now should probably peel off and still adhere on the new one. I have 3m sticky pads, double sided tape and other stuff like that too to use with them.

Thanks for looking, man, I'll keep you updated.

I have the case now- going to open it later and make sure everything is there, the tempered glass is ok, etc.

I also ordered a Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360mm AIO to replace my 4 year old Corsair H100i V2 cooler, as it is making some weird noises lately on boot, I think the pump may fail soon. I am also thermally limited on my 3900x and a custom loop is too expensive + too much maintenance that I cant really do due to the health issues. This new Arctic AIO is supposed to be great, just came out and was quite cheap for a 360mm aio cooler. I also ordered (and already have) a 3-pack of matching anidees ai-aureola rgb fans to go on the cooler, the same ones as in the case. So I am waiting on the cooler to arrive.

A few years back I had a local guy at an engraving shop make me some replacement acrylic for the top of my old custom arcade stick controller, that I used to use when I played Street Fighter at tournaments. He did an excellent job. If hes still around, I wonder if you can engrave/laser engrave on tempered glass? (I saw this on an LTT video, tge 'hive mind build' stream) I thought about coming up with some custom graphics that say "ai crystal" and maybe the retro vaporwave/synthwave perspective line grid to go across the bottom. And these would both light up from within and change colors from the rgb fans and light strips, and since its engraved in glass it would be translucent. So if its possible I might go that route, please dont send stickers.

Oh I forgot to tell you. I practically stole a Vega 64 from the market at techpowerup for $175. It was so cheap because the guy didn't want to bother with removing the water block. But that made it even more awesome because he included the stock cooler which was he never even used. It's running in Michele's downstairs 4k gaming rig now. I still use the RX 570 in my main rig though.
