PC shutting off during games after clean install!!!
Hello fellow nerd wizards I need your help. I've spent 20 hours doing things so far...
PC is 5 years old, shutting off during gaming OCCASIONALY only on SOME games and seems related to gfx settings. For some reason I think all of these problems are related but it may just be spurious other issues (like keyboard is dying and moniter is damaged).
-shut down on certain gfx setting in dota 2 within minutes (clean install of gpu software seems to have fixed this)
-FILCO mech keyboard died or got stuck a few times (while in sc2 and 7dtd)
-monitor 144hz 1080 starts as 720 or 60hz (new cord same problem). If I keep replugging it, it will fix in a few tries and stay, but if i restart I might have to mess with it. 144hz wont even show up sometimes in windows settings even if its in 144hz.
-shut down on sc2 AFTER clean install (wasnt in an intense game or anything, but modded game)
-had trouble clean installing (couple freezes/shutdowns)
-tons of shutdowns in 7dtd, seems server dependent, this is why I think certain graphics are causing it. I can be stable for any length of hours then my PC shuts off, and in some servers certain areas or the server itself seems to greatly increase probability my PC will shut off.
What I've done: (had 1 crash after all of this in sc2 map with not high gfx and nothing going on, so my GPU was prob 65C during crash...)
-checked power cords in PC
-furmark and prime 95 run stable on minitests (30m)
-no overclocking (no game I want needs it yet sadly, or is that good?)
-power saving features are off
-dusted PC (havent tested if it crashes still)
-no viruses I think (ran scans)
-using MSI afterburner and have a proper fan curve, at 70C it ramps up from 50% to 100% by 75C, I havent seen temps over 72C and I have overlay in games and I lock fps to 150 max.
-clean installing GPU software
-no error log in event viewer when my PC shuts off
-crystaldiskinfo says my SSD and HDD are in good shape
I have a gtx 970 ftw+ btw.
I was gonna run more tests and longer tests but that is several overnights of work, and learning to run memtest, so I thought I'd ask first.
I guess my GPU is the problem and it wouldn't be unreasonable to replace it. However I know it could be the PSU, mobo, or even RAM/etc, not sure what to do I really hoped the clean install of win7 would fix it.
Thx. Also would using a driver updater like auslogics cause any problems? I was thinking of updating all my drivers for stability.
