PC shutting off during games after clean install!!!

Hello fellow nerd wizards I need your help. I've spent 20 hours doing things so far...

PC is 5 years old, shutting off during gaming OCCASIONALY only on SOME games and seems related to gfx settings. For some reason I think all of these problems are related but it may just be spurious other issues (like keyboard is dying and moniter is damaged).

-shut down on certain gfx setting in dota 2 within minutes (clean install of gpu software seems to have fixed this)
-FILCO mech keyboard died or got stuck a few times (while in sc2 and 7dtd)
-monitor 144hz 1080 starts as 720 or 60hz (new cord same problem). If I keep replugging it, it will fix in a few tries and stay, but if i restart I might have to mess with it. 144hz wont even show up sometimes in windows settings even if its in 144hz.
-shut down on sc2 AFTER clean install (wasnt in an intense game or anything, but modded game)
-had trouble clean installing (couple freezes/shutdowns)
-tons of shutdowns in 7dtd, seems server dependent, this is why I think certain graphics are causing it. I can be stable for any length of hours then my PC shuts off, and in some servers certain areas or the server itself seems to greatly increase probability my PC will shut off.

What I've done: (had 1 crash after all of this in sc2 map with not high gfx and nothing going on, so my GPU was prob 65C during crash...)

-checked power cords in PC
-furmark and prime 95 run stable on minitests (30m)
-no overclocking (no game I want needs it yet sadly, or is that good?)
-power saving features are off
-dusted PC (havent tested if it crashes still)
-no viruses I think (ran scans)
-using MSI afterburner and have a proper fan curve, at 70C it ramps up from 50% to 100% by 75C, I havent seen temps over 72C and I have overlay in games and I lock fps to 150 max.
-clean installing GPU software
-no error log in event viewer when my PC shuts off
-crystaldiskinfo says my SSD and HDD are in good shape

I have a gtx 970 ftw+ btw.

I was gonna run more tests and longer tests but that is several overnights of work, and learning to run memtest, so I thought I'd ask first.

I guess my GPU is the problem and it wouldn't be unreasonable to replace it. However I know it could be the PSU, mobo, or even RAM/etc, not sure what to do I really hoped the clean install of win7 would fix it.

Thx. Also would using a driver updater like auslogics cause any problems? I was thinking of updating all my drivers for stability.

Problems like these are very tricky to pin down but your easiest option for now is trying another gpu and psu (maybe other cables too?)

It's 90% a hardware problem but I won't rule out some software stuff.

And try resting the cmos along the way

ok so in my opinion, the only hardware that can have issues then have no issues is the memory and SSD/HDD. assuming these are functioning without issue, the easiest way to fix most issues, is to simply format the system, and reload the OS. I do this when ever I have issues, sometimes it takes two years, sometimes it takes six months.

I was super lazy and didnt format for nearly five years (no problems really), but I already did a clean install and it hung a few times.

Was tempted to do another clean install because of that but I will run memtest and prime and furmark overnight in the next few days I guess.

I could just upgrade GPU and memory, a gtx 2060 is a 40%+ upgrade from cpubenchmark

Oh and the BSOD was like 10m in sc2 not even high gfx or temps........................

ok, well this is how I do a install after a format. the first drivers I install are the motherboard chipset drivers, than the video card drivers, soundcard drivers, and last are the network drivers. I never use the install all drivers option, as this never works without issue.

Change sata cables for SSD and HDD? or all of them? What does this do/is it for, I'm still a noob at computers.
stuff just gets weird with age. I typically change my sata cables every 5 years or so for good measure. They're on the same rotation as my fittings o-rings.

drivers -

I put them on a thumb, n start with chipset. i don't rely on win10 do to hardware layer drivers. so chipset, lan, sata, gpu, audio, usb, then i connect internet n let win10 ent do the rest.
