3970x Build

Hey guys so my previous post was in the wrong forum so going to be posting new changes here but if you want to see it https://www.overclock.net/forum/61-w...70x-build.html

Since my last post quite a few things have changed. First being I installed the cablemod cables.

Installed

Leds light up

Next Optimus sent out new tops for the TR blocks so of course I had to install it.

KPX Spread after removing the Optimus block, top left had loose contact but still was good

Spread on the block

Broken all down

EK Radiator gunk got into the fins even after running a filter for weeks, cleaned up easy, but man was that gasket a paint to get back in just right

New top installed and the block back together

Now I was pretty happy, temps have been amazing
,

BUT I have been running into ram limits while working so decided its time to upgrade kits. There were a lot to choose from but I got the fastest I could (timings wise)

Happy and installed running 14-14-14-34

Been playing around with the memory kit and trying to oc to at least 3600 but having issues and can't get it to post. I did tighten the default xmp profile settings down and my cinebench scores have gone way up. Going to play around with just 4 sticks and see if I can get it to oc but may end up putting this kit on the shelf and getting the G.Skill 3600 256gb kit when they finally release the 16-19-19-39 3600 256gb kits https://www.gskill.com/community/150...HEDT-Platforms. I see plenty of the 18-22-22-42 but those timings stink

Was able to play around and think I am happy other than not oc'ing to 3600

The 17,829 run @4.2ghz oc was with my old 64gb CL19 3600 kit
The 17,820 run @3.7ghz stock was with the new ram kit and tying to get the timings very tight, however Cinebench had no problem but the pc crashed running Prime95
The 17,641 run @3.7ghz stock was after loosening the timings @3200 but tighter than the xmp profile settings.

Not sure why but it lost my non oc run with the 3600 kit but it was ~16,600. While Cinebench went up I noticed in games I did lose some performance as the GPU load is now lower than it was previously (not by a lot but enough to notice) and feel that the lower speed ram is just not keeping up fast enough with the demand of the card. Hopefully I can hit 3600 and do a better comparison and then go back to the CPU oc.

Decided I’m not happy with this MSI Creator TRX40 and just picked up a new Zenith II Extreme Alpha. So looks like it’s time to tear down and rebuild and hopefully do a little better with the 16 fan cables and 8 rgb cables coming from the front. I also found ColdZero makes 1000D fan trays that include a hole for cable management while the stock trays don’t so will be ordering 2, one to replace the stock one and one to replace the top fan tray which is a 3x140.

Haven't started the tear down yet got caught up helping my wife who had surgery two weeks ago and didn't get enough time to play today so tomorrow it is. I did find another mod that caught my eye, a radiator cover https://www.coldzero.eu/radiator-cover-ryzen seeing if it can be customized to be Ryzen Threadripper and man if I didn't already have a gpu back plate....oh well theres always the 3080Ti down the road.

Cinebench is not a memory bound test.
You should use AIDA64 or other tool to compare different ram speeds / timings.
