Wow you switch out chips after going cold?
I have never done this as it just seems like a condensation headache waiting to happen. I can not imagine going full pot for a few hours, then warming up and switching out cpus without any trouble, but after seeing your subs form yesterday it seems you nailed it with the 920 and then the 980X on the same board during the same session.
The only thing I can think is that neither of those chips could run full pot temps.
