Need gmail account to install app, but don't want one

I understand to access the google play store you need to have a gmail login, which I'd rather not have (because I don't trust goolag). What would be the consequences for my android phone if I create a throwaway gmail account and never use it except to login to google play? Would the account be closed due to inactivity (because I'll never use gmail)? The app does look to be available as an apk on android-apk.net, but I don't know if I can trust their downloads and whether or not if the app will be updated if I install it from an apk. APKMirror doesn't have the app and neither does the Amazon Appstore

Have you tried FDroid or Apptoide? You don't need an account to use either.

#2 their debt is insane, even for a "diverse field" company. They cannot even afford to service the debt maintenance let alone make an actual dent in the debt itself. - Internet Stranger

Thanks I will check that now. I wish I could have a smartphone OS that wasn't developed by Goolag. Is Apple more trustworthy?

Use and install Aurora app store, it's a dev app made by a guy on XDA (an Android dev forum). You can download almost any app off the Google Play Store without your phone having to use the Google Play Store (or even having Google Play Services installed) and no Google account required.

Good way to get malware. Not necessary when there are better alternatives.
