First: I know that this might also be my PSU (or a fan) but hard drive was my best bet. I posted here 'cause there was no place (I think) where I could've posted about both PSU, and hard drives... A/W let us continue.

So... Recently I have been having this problem. Every time I boot up my computer, Theres a LOUD buzzing noise from the PC. When the computer is turned on, the pitch is low. However, when the boot up process continues, the pitch increases slowly, up to the point where we reach the windows welcome screen. Then the pitch gets lower, and the sound vanishes.

1: I have backed up the small amount of important files I have a while ago, before this problem.

2: It is important that this computer stay alive.

3: What do you think is the problem?

4: It is possible for me to record the sound if anyone needs it.

5: I have tried google, but got mixed results.

6: The sound is... like only one note basically... The broken hard drive sounds I have heard have multiple tones on top of each other + clacking and clicking. (Experience with laptop hard drives)

Older drives will generally show signs of wear. I had an old HP with an 80GB drive. It sounded like a turbine engine when it powered on. When you start doing HDD intensive stuff (Booting, moving large files or virus scans) You'll notice the drive spin up and get louder. I am wary by default of old hard drives, but it doesn't sound too unusual.

The drive is four years old. I've prolly transferred/deleted/created over 100gb of files in the last 3 days. The buzz was present before that, but the last 2-3 boot ups were much louder.

It could be dying, and sounding louder as it gets worse. Though I never experienced that.

I have no money for a new computer right now... If it somehow manages to phail on me, I have a spare 500gb drive in my closet. Just have to get a new windows, because this windows came with my computer. (I got this computer before I knew how to build computers.)
I consider myself lucky; A cheap-o HP computer has lasted 4 years. (Although I have replaced the GPU twice(For better FPS)... The original was a radeon x1600 pro )

My brothers old HP computer had that. He had the HP m7300.sc if I remember correctly. Mine is m7700.sc...

He went from x1300 pro to i7 + 5870 rig. Now he has 5870 CFX.
He ran a few games (like guild wars) at 1920x1200 with the x1300. But it was quite an upgrade from that to 5870 I can imagine.

Enough derailing!!!

Did your HP come with a Recovery Disc? If it did, it will install Windows, and the other software that originally came on your PC, onto your other drive.

I'm afraid it is one of these:

A: It did not come with one (I'm 99.5% sure)
B: It might have been thrown away (Almost impossible, however, I got this computer when I did not yet know so much about computers... soooo..)

No; I don't have one.
