I think the processing power of a phone is a few years off from this going mainstream, but I really like the idea. An ubuntu based phone that docks into a laptop would probably be my first choice of mobile devices if I was forced to stop using OS X or iOS. Ubuntu is already very OS X like visually (Well, the Gnome version anyway), it's Linux based, and syncing is a non issue if there are no separate devices to sync.

I think Windows 8 is going to open a window for a new competitor to come into the laptop/desktop OS market. If NexPhone can beef up Ubuntu in the user friendly ease-of-use department, now is the time to get in the game.

I'm still crossing my fingers for an Android based desktop OS though.

VoIP is death for phone companies. All that's left are bandwidth charges, and that's pennies to the mass multimedia web.

For $10 a month you could have unlimted 3G phone access, or $40 unlimited LTE data. Say goodbye to minutes and SMS charges.

It is good to see this is starting to hit. It sounds awesome to have a phone and computer in one device (considering how tech is mowing toward low power performance)

Implementation was poor imho.

Galaxy Note 3 32GB (Black) - Verizon (dev device)

That's where devs came in biggrin.gif

I once tried a webtop which was a full-fledged linux, plus the HDMI hack to not get the special add-on. But i cannot live with a screen under 15' on a laptop, so i scratched it.

This idea isn't actually new. It's more like the Motorola ATRIX/lapdock taken to a whole new level!

Circumstances forced me to go inactive back in 2014. I guess I'm back for 2016, but won't be active much! Cheers!

If they get this working to the tune of a portable OS "module" (ie smart phone) that can plug into a variety of bases (laptop, desktop, speakers, automobile, etc.), this can and will be huge. In fact, I'd argue it to be the natural evolution of personal computing.

See what I did there? laugher.gif
