That can never happen because that Core2 Quad Inspiron can never feed the card so much to make it draw that much power biggrin.gif
Correct?

If there was no issue, AMD would have not done anything. I'm just surprised this was not caught before release.

As I pointed out in another thread, this is not necessarily true. The masses can cause a response regardless of the veracity of what the masses are saying.

So wait, the parents couldn't afford a 5 year old pc build but the son could afford a new rx480. Doesn't look like the parents are taking care of the kid. doh.gif
But oh wait, the parents gift him a decade old pc setup so he can buy a current gen video card. Yeah, that fits biggrin.gif

Or was this whole thing a form of satire? Hard to read those sometimes, lol. Needless to say, not sure if srs.

Imagine that same kid worked extra hard to buy a 1440p monitor with only DVI input and clocks it to 96 hz refresh rate only to find out his 1070 card wont allow him to boot into windows. That same kid also bought a HIVE and can't use the DP connector on his founders edition 1070 to control it. Point being both companies have some bugs with new releases.

In many ways, OCN is like Scan.co.uk. Great shop, tend to buy all of my PC hardware form there, but my god you can tell they are sponsored by Nvidia.

[OT]
Enough noise has been created for AMD to stay silent or do nothing.

They cannot (as any other company) physically and economically engage in direct disputes in every forum or comment section in every major country, debunking speculations or freely discussing PCIe (remember that it's closed specs) safety margins and whether it's possible for RX 480 to damage or shorten the life of your other components.

Knowing the state of Internet, such move is destined to grandiose failure - countless fanboys from both sides will turn such dispute in flaming wars and the whole try will be a laugh and a massive PR crash.

Engaging in passive explanations, trough statements and articles is futile, as to every published article, 10sec.latter you will have forums filled with hundreds of anonymous trolls that wrongly or deliberately misinterpreting words, sentences, paragraphs - "exposing hidden meanings and lies".

At the end of the day, something got overblown (not the right word there) - intentionally or not, it's done! Now, whether there is a real problem or not is irrelevant.
I agree with @stargate125645 Sometimes it's just better to admit to something you haven't done, accept the less bad option, and move on in order to shake it off faster.

This whole PCIE business has got to be the biggest load of overhyped garbage I've ever seen in the gpu forums. Mostly avid Nvidia fanboys who wouldn't ever be caught dead with any AMD components rushing into every 480 thread to cry crocodile tears about the poor kids with Pentium 4's who will be ever so devastated that their shiny new card might not work in a 10 year old $50 PC. I would have zero hesitation at all from slapping a reference 480 in my old P67 Sabertooth and over volting the pee out of it.

Overdrawing the pcie slot, Jesus Christ.... rolleyes.gif

Honestly i doubt those old cpus can even push rx480 to it's limits where it can overdraw power from pci-e. but who knows tongue.gif
