Wow, am I glad that my wife and I went all in on a 2990WX... RIP Intel. Failed out the gate, looks like Bulldozer 2.0!

Great choice with the 2990WX! I don't think this will be like Piledriver, it's going to trade blows with the 2990wx and use less power at the same clock speed. Cascade Lake was confirmed of having an IPC increase over Skylake/Kaby Lake/Coffee Lake(Which have the same IPC).

The two issues with this chip is price and it's competition will actually be Zen 2 not the 2990wx. Even if it can somehow match the IPC of the upcoming Zen 2 Threadripper it won't be able to keep up with it's power draw. The main advantage Intel's Cascade Lake has will be Optane DC persistent memory. Means nothing to prosumers but it seems as though it's a giant breakthrough for data center use cases. Intel has a ton of documentation and is working with users on how to use Optane DC persistent memory in their environments. It's no surprise why these chips will be expensive.
