[TH]Intel Xeon W-3175X: Overclockable 28-Core CPU Listed at Stores

Well, there it is. Intel's famed 28-core overclockable processor that it overclocked, but forgot to tell anyone, at its Computex presentation. Prices are insane, though.

Quote:
Several European retailers have listed Intel's overclockable 28-core Xeon W-3175X for preorder. Sure, Intel's 28-core count isn't quite as impressive as Threadripper's, but the beastly 5.0 GHz frequency at stock settings blew Threadripper out of the water. Except the chip wasn't at stock settings: Intel notoriously demoed the chip without disclosing that it was overclocked and cooled with the help of an industrial-grade water chiller.

You expected a fully enabled chip for only $4000?
Tom's reported the price but I can't imagine it would sell at that price to anyone but overclockers.

I wouldn't even buy it for $3000, because there are much better options out there.

You mean extreme overclockers who get a bunch to bin and use "for free"/for work who are advertisers essentially? So in the end it's other companies that will buy it maybe and then the whole platform dies.

44 lanes is a joke.

Gigabyte is also coming up with a mobo for this / it's slightly less insane re. 8 pins, though. Either way, I am sure you already played with multi-PSU setups because you're gonna need 2000w+ if you want to seriously oc the 3175X and do the same with power-hungry multi-GPUs

I think a hand full of people will buy one for hardline builds with SLI RTX Titans, some for LN2. Obviously Der8er will make a special video with a cherry picked sample under LN2. Kingpin will likely break some 3Dmark records with it.

I just don't see them selling as well as TR or even some of Intel's other CPUs.
If it's $2000 I can see it getting lots of attention but $4000 is really steep.

I'm going to watch Der8auer's channel just to see if he tries to delid a $$$ W3175X (I assume this has soldered TIM as well). That recent 9980XE delid w/ soldered TIM he tried didn't go so well...
