My first graphics card was a Diamond Stealth 64 which actually had sockets where you could add additional ram to the card. Made the jump to a true 3d card with a pair of Diamond Monster Voodoo 2 cards in SLI a few years later.
There are a few dozen glass cases in the lobby of AMD's HQ in Markham ontario, they have all sorts of interesting prototypes (AMD camera) as well as retail boxes (ATI 9800, AMD 295x2, etc), some older ATi asics, awards and such (20+ years old)... super cool to see.
What do they do at the Canadian HQ ? So they do any engineering? Or just marketing/sales ?
Dam I had 2-3 older GPUs that all got thrown away over a decade ago, my parents threw them out without asking if I wanted them still.
First computer I gamed on growing up I am quite certain had a Radeon 9800 Pro.
Others I can think of having in various computers over time....
- GeForce 4
- GeForce FX (was a midrange one if I recall, sucked)
- Radeon X1650 Pro (card was rock solid for what I was using it for at the time. Last AGP card we had I think...)
- 9800 GT
- Radeon HD 5770's
- GTX 670
- GTX 980
