[Microsoft] Direct3D team office has a Wall of GPU History

Quote:
When you are the team behind something like Direct3D, you need many different graphics cards to test on. And when you’ve been doing this for as long as we have, you’ll inevitably accumulate a LOT of cards left over from years gone by. What to do with them all? One option would be to store boxes in someone’s office:

But it occurred to us that a better solution would be to turn one of our office hallways into a museum of GPU history:
Lots of nostalgia.

They should make an actual museum and preserve them better. Insanely cool though.

Saw this the other day impressive collection!
My closet collection of GPUs have spanned since Fermi though I only collect rare cards like Dual GPUs and unique nonref designs.

Very nice idea, but the execution could've been better I feel. On the other hand, actually placing them behind glass or something would probably make the hallway too narrow for regulations

Seeing a ATI 9800 to this day still makes me happy. I got a 9600XT as my first official video card back in 2004.

Yeah, getting into 3D graphics from the mid 90s to mid 00s was something no one will ever experience again - except when holodecks become a thing. It was quite a time in the computer industry.

Mine was a Nvidia RIVA TNT2 back in 1999. So off-brand I don't think you could figure out the assembler even with forensics.
