This does seem to confirm that their focus is drifting away from PCs although it's vague as can be.

Putting business degrees at the helm of innovative companies is slow death. Lisa Su is an example of someone who should be leading a company like Intel.

He originally said he did not want the permanent job but he been pretty much running the company anyways so makes the most sense.

Future of intel is a bit muddy but we shall see.

What type of degree would the ideal CEO for Intel have? Once you reach the point of being selected as a CEO candidate for a company such as Intel I don't think the degree you hold would have any bearing on your overall performance in the role.

Lisa Su has a PHD in electrical engineering from MIT. That is the type of person that should be running a semiconductor company. It's not necessarily about what specific degree, though; it is just a matter of perspective. People who have been in finance and accounting positions their entire life lack the vision and technical understanding to be making decisions that will progress a company like Intel into the future.

I could see the argument that right now a financial guy is what Intel will need. Their products need some major work for the long term but in the short term I think their best bet at maintaining stock price / market sentiment is accentuating their strong financial numbers and bolstering marketing.

Not that I agree with this, but I could see the logic. IMO this CEO looks as promising as the last one and will likely result in much of the same. If you've been happy with Intel up to this point you should be pretty content with this choice.

Seems like as long as Intel doesn't drop the ball and is able to keep doing more of the same then they will do just fine. Their "mind share" is just too strong to be overrun in the near term. And a finance background likely means the new CEO will hedge his bets and start hoarding cash like M$ has been doing for two decades.

Not great news for tech enthusiasts but not bad either. More of the same more likely.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
