There are articles from the last few days about a new GPU hitting a few benchmarks with just an ID number. People first assumed it was Navi, but the ID number corresponds to Vega 20 in the Linux kernel. Here is one of them from someone who didnt yet connect the ID number to the one already in the linux kernel:

Thanks for clarifying, no way that's a Vega 7nm card with 1280 shaders it must have more shaders or is clocked at least 200-300Mhz higher with the node shrink. We've seen a 60% DirectX benchmark performance increase from Vega 64 to the Radeon VII in GXBench. Going from the 1280 shader Radeon Pro Vega 20 to the 66AF:F1 that's a 102% performance increase in the DirectX benchmark.

Nice results. I wonder why a single RVII beats a 2080ti but when you get them in pairs the 2080ti's pull ahead. Could it be the new bridge that nvidia uses?

http://www.eteknix.com/amd-radeon-vi...s-card-review/

this was posted today, and it shows (more or less) whats been being shown by most user benches, the radeon VII being comparable to the RTX 2080. i dont really know what the hate is all about on the card, it does compete pretty well with the 2080/1080ti. i get that it was late to the party and all, and its expensive, and power hungry. but ts literally 2/3s or less the price of a new 1080ti right now and the power consumption blip is only an issue if you're living off the grid or dont have a PSU capable for it, which is a minimal upgrade, and one of the simplest and cheapest future proof purchases.

if it were a binned card with the same TMUs, shaders, and compute units that the V64 had, and yielded maybe ~3-5% better scores, i feel that the majority of the user base would be falling all over it.

review shows the cards at 9 wins for the VII and 11 for the 2080 across all games and resolutions, and 10 to 13 when including the synthetics.

honestly id happily buy a radeon VII, i have the funds and i wouldnt miss them. but i need sub ~8.75 in to fit in my rig with the AIO cooler thats required.

For gaming there isn't a reason not to get a RTX 2080 over a Radeon VII unless you're a fanboy.

1. It has less features
2. It cost the same as a RTX 2080
3. It runs hot
4. it's loud
5. It uses too much power
6. It's overall 5% slower than a RTX 2080

That's absolutely ridiculous. By that logic, I can't buy anything but intel or nvidia, less I be a "fanboy".

As a consumer you buy the best product for your needs. Out of the two the RTX 2080 provides the better gaming experience. I bought my Radeon VII for ROCm and Mac. Not for gaming, if I wanted a card just for gaming, without hesitation I would of bought the RTX 2080.

2080 is trash. If you wanted to have Nvidia most would have 1080 Ti meaning 2080 is even more trash.
