The GPU/display is secondary.
Is Ryzen 3000 going to be worth waiting for? I have a Intel i5 6600k system and I want to upgrade this fall.

Here's what I'm doing, and you can draw your own conclusions:

My current system is a 960T PhenomII. I will be buying a 3700-3850/X570 or maybe even whatever the new Threadripper motherboard-processor combination is with 64GB DDR4 and 1TB NVME for a boot drive. I will be going stupidly cheap on GPU and monitor because this is the transition year for the industry to catch up to 4K. Next year there should be a really GOOD choice of 43in 4K monitors and GPU's to drive them. But until this happens I'm using a 1060GTX level gpu to drive a cheap 1080p TV.

I calculated the odds of this succeeding versus the odds I was doing something incredibly stupid... and I went ahead anyway.

If it's not coming out for the PC, it's dead to me.

The card is available right now on Newegg and has been almost daily on AMD.COM.

Technology is NOT a liberator . Whom technology serves is a class question.
Technology wielded by the capitalist class benefits only the exploiters.
Technology wielded by the working class will serve ALL Humanity.

Have a blast at having your rig updating and breaking every month, while I launch SteamOS and game on Linux.

sounds interesting, well so seems that maybe it can be the start point of gaming on linux for a newbie like me waiting for the proper knowledge to go on to a more serious and orthodox distribution.....

SteamOS is kind of on hold currently until Valve can get Vulkan on every platform.

Never had that problem. You can just turn off updates via wumt and enjoy server-grade stability.

Proton, DXVK, Wine, Gallium Nine... Google those.

I don't even know what this means.

Server-grade stability and Windows is an oxymoron. Linux dominates the server market for a reason, Windows is nowhere to be seen in the supercomputer spectrum and it is as good as banned in any critical service.

well

all the business servers I have worked on in the last 10 years are windows based but I get what you meant.... anyway, to stick to the topic, I wanna give a try to linux gaming so would be better if I try to feed my little brain with info and communities that use it by far for that..... maybe a little linux-box to try out, a dual core with an aged gpu and see what it can do.....
