doesn't the existing microSD communicate via USB interface tho? or am i missing something?

in any case, this is the best improvement i've heard so far.

Awesome, because as good as cloud storage is, there are just some things that will benefit from fast, local storage. Cameras on phones are getting better and better and that high bit rate 4K video needs to rest somewhere first. I'm hoping expandable storage will pick up support again soon on flagships.

It's a shame most phones are doing away with microSD. Maybe express will bring them back.

USB 3.1 interconnect is PCIE.

Ive noticed that the 2019 flagships just being announced seem to have more than usual offering SD card support so it seems this may very well be taking off. Though we wont get SD-Express support in 2019 phones if it was just announced. Maybe next years flagships?

In addition, Host Memory Buffer (HMB) lets the NVMe device use a small slice of system RAM to store the mapping tables that convert logical memory addresses to physical memory locations within the device itself.
I guess we finally have a good use of the 8-12GB of RAM being put into new flagship phones. Hopefully data doesnt get corrupted easily if power is lost like from a dead battery, a serious concern in phones.

I don't believe their statment

they are saying "capable of up to 985MB/s transfer rates," I don't buy that , i think the best we could see in mobiles/laptops built in's around 400MB/s.

do we have any micro SD that run 200MB/s read/write right now ? uhs3 cards write speeds around 45MBs and read around 110MB/s

what about V90 ? i think they are 90 MB/s write right ?

so to jump to 985MB/s I don't believe it . its just feels like how they write the these theoretical values on the cards or is it a typo in that site XD they meant small letter b not capital B
