[Shacknews] Google gaming console controller images leak before GDC 2019

Quote:
Google is planning to unveil something in the gaming space at GDC 2019. Part of that surprise may have been leaked today, as images of a Google gaming console have appeared on the Internet.

UPDATE: Images of the controller are a first look design mockup of the controller. The design and form factor of the controller is confirmed in the patent filed by Google.
Source

Would be in rumors if not for the patent.

And then it turns out that your Android phone is the console and you use this to control games on your phone/tablet/etc.

Given that their entire model is poaching games off of other gaming systems, of course the controller is just going to mimic established design.
Can they make compelling games? Can they do anything with Streaming that can’t be done on local hardware?
If not then the whole project is doomed before they even announce it.

Hopefully the best thing to come out of this will be a hardware standard to allow game developers to sell old console ports and convince the market to use third party game stores like Epic did.
Ultimately we need the actual Steam store running real ARM based games on Android. This would be a perfect project for CD Project RED to expand GoG.com into new markets. Nvidia almost had a good thing going but they locked it down to limited hardware.
There’s no reason for the mobile market to operate any differently from the PC market.

Can I just say how impressive it is that the SNES button layout still persists to this day?

Thirty years of gaming and counting...

billions at their disposal and they give the world a PSX controller

edit: i guess you really cant step too far away from the standard PS4/Xbox/MS controllers nowadays and be successful. even valves controller(admittedly not being meant for every game in the library) didnt seem to take off so well. only ground breaking thing ive seen in the department is the latest VR knuckles which i am pretty excited for

Guess you're supposed to press the top buttons with your finger tips? Thing looks like it was designed by someone who heard about a controller but never really used one. Hope whatever it is they come up with is better designed then that.

Probably going to ship with the next Android TV with their Project Stream installed. Can't wait to see how it competes with nVidia's shield because that thing is already impressive and cheap since they use their own GPUs while Google is using AMD GPUs.
