OCN has become an empty echo-chamber since the changes. I recall when the forums had at least 1,000 active users online (not guests) and now it's lucky to get 100... I don't expect the forums to last much longer; it's not financially profitable to keep it running without an active userbase. It's still a great reference source though and that may drag non-users to entering this incredibly ad-infested forum. Since 3DGAMEMAN retired (or downed tools), we all knew this was a dying trend, but at least desktop computing survived the forum age. I take it more people with move to Reddit and LTT/LMG but I doubt the old guard will move on... Stupid questions get stupid answers, and those areas are full of 'em.

At least we're approaching the riga mortis of this slow and painful death the community has been enduring over the past couple of years.

In fact I think half of OCNs past users moved to [H]. A good test is to just state an opinion and see how long it takes for somebody who signed up in the past 3 years to yell at you!!! I kid I kid.

Oh well..
I use HardForum far more than OC just because I hate this new look. It's hard to look at, and it's too busy. If OC.net just changed their look to a modern looking website instead of going backwards to whatever the hell this is now, I'd frequent it more.

Yeah, it's also that forum engines are not really fit for modern age, they are cluttered and slow, because they've been developed in early 2000s. I compare them with Discourse engine, I was amazed how sleek and fast it is, and it works on phones too without being hard to use or missing desktop version features.

I see forums as a form of communication about our hobby and really don't bother to be too critical about them as long as they work. The main problem for me is that new PC enthusiasts (i.e. younger) are not in the mood of writing or diving deep into technical aspect while they prefer youtube content without lifting a finger. Wait, they can lift a finger actually to press the like button and this is it...

I am participating in forums since the dawn of Internet Browsers....anyone remember "Dimension3D" forum during the times of Voodo 1? Well, unfortunately I old enough to have witnessed the demise of a lot of old places (like HardOCP) now and I really don't know where this lead...

Reddit and the likes are not like a forum....they remind me of chat rooms for more random stuff rather than a organized discussion platform..It is sad really...

Maybe the surge of OCN'ers that left for HardOCP after the VS changeover will come back after this. OCN isn't that bad now that they have sorted out most of the migration. But they still could choose a more modern engine than VB.

I agree, I don't mind the forum as long as you block the ads. I'm even fine with less traffic but I hate how we have an influx of new people who act like they own the place while contributing nothing. A hand full of people (same ones) seem like they're trying to come up with the stupidest idea/question to make a thread about so they can bump it every single day to keep it on the active list. The threads we have on news stuff often devolve into a poop throwing contest which bothers me because the main reason I'm here is to read all the interesting points of view and theories, hell even constructive debate. The same thing happened in the past but there seemed to be less of it and more people deleting the garbage.

It becomes clearer now why Kyle let the Intel troll fanboys Shintai, Juanrga and Sweeper run wild and free on the HardOCP forum spewing all manner of BS and grossly unproductive argumentative rhetoric...he was too busy deep throating Intel looking for a gravy job. My experiemce with Kyle is that he was a little Napoleon on his site...if you offered an explanation or context, he'd ban you for having the temerity of questioning him.

Unbiased perspective indeed...
