mGPU is one of the main reasons you'd want PCIE 4.0 and lots of lanes, it would be a real shame if we make it through 5.0 and DX12 without seeing mGPU make a come back.

There are two different kinds of mGPU "Multiple" or "Linked" GPUs. Most games only support Linked GPUs which can only be done in nVidia/AMD driver when enabling SLI or Crossfire. Unless we get official news for CrossFire support I wouldn't purchase two just to rely on a developer to support multiple GPUs.

https://developer.nvidia.com/explici...ing-directx-12

Quote:
Adapters - Multiple or Linked Together
DirectX 12 exposes two alternate ways of controlling multiple physical GPUs. They can be controlled as multiple independent adapters where each adapter represents one physical GPU. Alternatively, they can be configured as one “linked node adapter” where each node represents one physical GPU. However, it’s important to note that application cannot control how it sees multiple GPUs. It cannot link or unlink adapters. The selection is done by end user through display driver settings.

I have extreme delusions of a return to Mgpu epicness as DX12 matures. let's hope.

But since AMD never support crossfire via windowed mode, in DX12 (which forces windowed mode), crossfire doesn't work and AMD don't support it there, so you are limited to DX12 multi GPU support and developer support, which is well, sketchy, since most developers stopped caring about multi GPU setups as well.

This is also similar to SLI, but since SLI can work in windowed mode, you can force multi GPU rendering via nvidia drivers and game profiles to have some benefit of SLI when playing DX12 games.

But for DX11, as long as there is a profile, you can run crossfire.
Problem with nvidia you got to go 2080 above for sli or has that change?

Thanks (also to @white owl and op).

tbh, i wanted to disagree

but based on one (not a bad thing, just keeping context) benchmark:

i would have to agree; esp for amd not using SLI/NV link bridges.

peanut gallery:
yes the titanV is a few steps above amd 5700 series but future.

Really doesn't look good. More power hungry than a faster 12nm card

I suspect some closest buyers so don't hold you breath on that. Are you getting the OEM or are you waiting for Aftermarket variants?

Is that right?

Nvidia Super is supposed to be real (supposedly unveiled June 21st) and replace existing stack: https://videocardz.com/81043/confirm...0-super-series

wccftech believes that that the Super cards will replace the existing stack and that the old stack will be price cut. Makes sense unlike the original idea that the Super was going to be cheaper.

I’m kinda stuck. I’m building a new rig early July - 3900X, but not sure which GPU yet as been out of the game for a while. Either the 5700XT, Radeon VII or RTX2080. Going to be a hard choice! If there are PCIe 4 NVMe drives out early July along with X570 boards then budget might be eaten by one of them so would need to go 5700XT.

i just posted this in the asus asrock mobo thread:

Phison will deliver a 6,500 MB/s PCIe 4.0 SSD controller "by Q1 of next year"
so maybe get that RVII and hold off until pci-e 4.0 nvme is faster and maybe cheaper.
