There is an outfit called Reporters Without Borders. One of the things they do is rank 180 countries on freedom of the press. Almost all of the best countries are European and Caribbean, plus New Zealand. America has been dropping the last few years and is down to 48th and falling. Have you noticed the attack on CNN parent company AT&T lately? Meanwhile China is sitting in their usual spot of 177th out of 180 countries.

If that is how they treat their press, how do you think they treat their common population as well as other countries?

I heard this story when Japan at its economy peak too.

I guessing in the coming decades when India come up, it will be India's turn to "stealing IP"
Well before actually. Because Japanese TV manufacturers licensed tech from American companies for local manufacturing then formed a cartel to dump goods into the west. And then Japan got caught letting Toshiba, a US government and military supplier, sell manufacturing equipment to the Soviet military despite being part of an agreement to not trade with the Soviet state. And the currency manipulation to keep yen low to help exports.

Can we drop the victim nonsense? The US surely does bad business itself but it didnt just make things up against Japan, nor against China. The fact that were even willing tolerate a great deal with state capitalism from Korea, who has captured a great deal of tech/electronics should tell you something

I would love to read about all of these events involving Japan and stolen IP from the west.

But honestly, have any the people defending the Chinese Communist party even been to China? Not the glitz and glamour of Shanghai, Beijing or Shenzen, but the countryside. Chinese socialism is a joke. It does NOTHING to help the people it is supposed to. Those people are still living in squalor and poverty despite the statements by the CCP otherwise. Many people have had their land confiscated with no legal recourse because the courts in China are a joke too. Look at what is happening with Canada and China currently.

The entire country is corruption at it's highest level. China should be expelled from the WTO until they can clean up their act (which they can't).

It is what it is...

Unlike you I have been in China for almost 16 years and have clearly seen the failures of the government, which for one has been to lift hundreds of millions out of poverty.

Unlike me... LOL

I've been there 17 times. I lived in Shenzen for a year as well. Nice try though.

To me it seems funny that the pot is calling the kettle black.

The U.S. has a long history of war and intervention that has killed millions of innocent people. China has a long history of censorship and intervention that has killed millions of innocent people.

Which is worse? The country that has provided billions of arms to unstable nations and groups in the middle east? The country that has silenced and harvested millions of people? What about the one that sterilized black women in the 60's? Or the one that has massive internment camps? Can you even tell the difference?

The only difference I can see is that there is still room for change in America, but just because you can change a soiled diaper doesn't mean that it will be.

Yeah, cause the US started out with a King... Pretty sure the founders stole freedom from the Greeks.

Hmmm... I wonder where America (and the rest of the world) got and developed the following then:
- Paper
- Gunpowder
- Compass
- Block Printing

Point is, when countries are developing, they steal tech left and right. This is something that has been proven over and over again throughout history, so let's not twist things and stay off the high horse.

a decrease in population can lead to a higher standard of living.

Remember the golden rule of statistics: A personal sample size of one is a sufficient basis upon which to draw universal conclusions.
