[TH]China Loses Zen: AMD Halts Technology Transfers of x86 IP

It appears that AMD's unholy alliance with China-backed companies is over.

Quote:
AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed to Tom's Hardware at Computex 2019 that the company isn't licensing further chip designs to its China-backed joint venture. That means that AMD's chip-producing joint venture in China will be confined to the Zen architecture that debuted in first-gen Ryzen and EPYC Milan processors, but will not move forward with designs based on AMD's new Zen 2 microarchitecture that powers the third-gen Ryzen and EPYC Rome processors.

Good to hear it. There are too many other countries out there that can do the job without the political baggage.

Well, this is disappointing but expected. This will just cause China to further develop their own chips and cause a rift between Western companies and Eastern companies. This is not good for either Intel or AMD as it could very well cause their decline.

China has stolen practically every technology it has "imported". What makes you think they had honest intentions with AMD's license?

Asus Prime Z370, Intel 8700k @5.0Ghz, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16GB @3400 CL14, Watercooling: x2 MCP355 pumps, x1 280 on front of case, x1 360 on top of case, x1 140 on back of case, x1 240 on bottom of case

Not even a fair comparison TBH. China is 100X worse than what the US does. And the fact that they flaunt it right back in your face is the worst part.

It is what it is...

I never understood why Americans living an easy life in a first world country with a strong judicial system have to compare their nation to third world dictatorships claiming they suffer more or are worse than them for xyz reasons. China is harvesting organs and running re-education camps on its own people and farming intellectual property from every other nation. They deserve the blowback.

BTW today is the 30th anniversary of the Tienanmen square massacre, an event erased in Chinese history.

Both-sidesism is neither intellectually honest nor contributing to the discussion.
