[PCWorld] Intel challenges AMD's Ryzen 3000 CPUs to take the Core i9-9900K's real-world gaming crown

Source: https://www.pcworld.com/article/3401...ing-crown.html

Quote:
“If they want this crown come beat us in real world gaming, real world gaming should be the defining criteria that we use to assess the world’s best gaming CPU,” Intel VP Jon Carvill told PCGamesN.com. “I challenge you to challenge anyone that wants to compete for this crown to come meet us in real world gaming. That’s the measure that we’re going to stand by.”
Remember this is at E3 so of course they'll be talking about gaming.

If AMD wins at 4K but not 1080p, you can bet there's gonna be lot more "defining" of "real world gaming" lol.

- 4930K @ 4.5 GHz | Asus X79-Deluxe
- MSi 980 Ti Gaming @ 1500/8000
- 4x4 GB Dominator Platinum 2400 MHz
- 2x 850 Pro 2TB
- Seasonic PRIME Titanium 850W
- Phanteks Enthoo Primo
- Custom watercooling (420+360+240)
- XB270HU 27" 1440p 144Hz IPS

Probably, and even then with all the security problems Intel has, I wouldn't be too sure what the baseline performance will be in a year.

Anyway, it's a move that may pay off in the very short term, but a risky move to do long-term:

https://www.techspot.com/review/1859...core-i5-7600k/

Quote:
For those that skipped to this point we’ll quickly summarize: overall the Ryzen 5 1600 was noticeably slower in a single game, namely Far Cry New Dawn. Performance was still very playable, but frame rates were well down on the Core i5-7600K. Ryzen was also slightly slower in World War Z and it was a draw in Rage 2 and Hitman 2. As we moved into more demanding modern titles, we found the R5 1600 to be a good bit faster in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and then overwhelmingly faster when testing with Battlefield V, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and The Division 2.

These findings are inline with what we said and found two years ago. Back then the i5-7600K was a tad faster in the majority of games, however Ryzen showed a lot of promise when performing well in the most CPU demanding games of the time, delivering more consistent performance. We recommended the Ryzen 5 1600 over the Core i5-7600K in 2017 for a number of reasons, many relevant at the time, but one that is relevant today is that we believed it'd be the better gaming CPU in the long run and that happens to be the case.

I'd say that Intel is going to have a very hard time justifying charging the current huge extra for the 9900K once the 3700X and 3800X come out.

Intel pandering to gamers now when for years they kicked us in the head.

It does not matter what they do now, they will be floundering post i9 9900. Even if Zen 2 looses to gaming by turning off all the security glitches on the Intel chips (I'll see what reviews say and not trust AMD or Intel) still Zen 3 will not while Intel will be where then? Yes, you are cool Intel, but dead in the water, corps is starting to stink from across the room.

Are you going with 10nm, have you dropped those plans and skipped to 7nm? Where are you now Intel since you can't even produce 14nm consistently. Yes, people that are shortsighted won't see your ruse, but those with a brain can smell the decomposing flesh.

Its going to be hilarious if AMD actually does come out ahead in real games as well as synthetic benches.
