Not in a rush. Next gen cards will all probably have native HDMI 2.1. By then we will have 2020 LG OLEDs.

Only goes to show how bad the adoption is that there need to be converters from DP. Die HDMI, die.

It does not need to die. They just need to include DP with TVs.

I'm pretty sure HDMI is the more ubiquitous of the 2 because of TVs. HDMI 2.1 is already on some 4ks (LG OLED and their "high end" IPS) and a majority of 8ks I believe. By next year it'll probably be mainstream

I do agree that TVs getting DP would be the best possible outcome though! Honestly, I think it is the best cable (I like cables can either be 'lockable' (have the barbs and the release 'button') or 'normal' (like an HDMI cable)). We can all dream, but I don't see it happening anytime soon .

I do wish that nV/AMD would have tried to get HDMI 2.1 in their Super/Navi cards.

Honestly I don't think there is any real excuse for not including HDMI2.1 ports on every video card manufactured this year. OTH the whole industry is still not ready for 4K so it's mass incompetance. LG has the already mentioned 4K 120hz panel that NEEDS HDMI2.1, but currently that's it more or less. Why the next DisplayPort spec port is not out and being mass produced also has me scratching my head. I wanted to jump to 4K this year from 1080p but I am now scaled back to 1440p. I'm just putting more money into CPU+MOBO+DDR4 than I would have otherwise. Maybe next year new $$$ video card and 4K.

I calculated the odds of this succeeding versus the odds I was doing something incredibly stupid... and I went ahead anyway.

If it's not coming out for the PC, it's dead to me.

Now that's harsh. They need the income anyway the poor things, barely afloat as they are; poor poor consortiums, honestly.

Anyway, i was under the impression that such a conversion would by necessity fall under the 'active' variety and as such should be considered subpar regardless of implementation; so am left wondering why really.. who's served here? Especially when the nu-nu-nu DP is on its way?
(i'm not a telly/large monitor type of person, so may well be missing something here)

Now how about someone makes an HDMI 2.1 to DP 1.4 converter so that we can use consoles on high end monitors

Using a converter is far from ideal but it could be worthwhile just for the sake of having the first HDMI 2.1 output on the market (shame on AMD and Nvidia for not updating their display connectors), if they can deliver this to consumers in the next five months (before CES when undoubtedly a ton of HDMI 2.1 devices will be announced) then a lot of people will have fun pushing 4K 120 to their TVs.
