any idea when the 3000 series or whatever will be released? want to get a 2070 super for cyberpunk but that's still 8-9 months out. I don't usually upgrade my gpu every gen
at the same time I could probably get ~$200 for my 1070 if I sell it so i'm not sure

For gaming? Post VII, I really doubt it. AMD might bring bigger navi earlier than expected, but other than that, I'm not sure AMD has any respond at this point until next year.

I expect sometime next year, at Q1 at the earliest. Nvidia are moving to samsung 7nm, and I expect they will wait until AMD actually has a response to their top card in the form of "big navi".
Right now tuning is good enough for them to hold the market until next year.

AMD are also not currently fully threatening nvidia in the enterprise market as well with their 7nm instinct or vega II cards, so nvidia are in no rush right now.
If you want fully RTX running though, I would still wait for next year. With 7nm they might have enough room in the die to put more tensor cores to make it running without big drop.

Its not ok.

Its only 15% faster than GTX 1080 Ti after 2.5 years for the same price. (As mentioned by Steve from HWU)

Not to mention a 27% memory loss

At $599 I can see this at least being a logical progression from 2070 Super, but $699 eh no Leatherman can stick it up his ass.
The value proposition is horrible. The 2080S gets sandbagged in order to keep the Ti relevant. As you state, there is a clear $/perf window here, but Nvidia is betting AMD has no answer in the highend range, so they will hold the status quo. If AMD has an answer, I hope its soon...for my sake.

If amd would have a valid response "you" could not afford it exactly like the 2080ti, why should amd cut their profits? When the price bar has been raised and market went that route too, the other competitors have to follow it.... anything else is wishful thinking.

There is no wishful thinking. Navi lowered the current mid tier card pricing.

mid super cards from nvidia are 50$ MORE

the only save can be done on old cards non super

regarding navi, we are the usual 50$ below (because custom aibs will end up costing 50$ more than ref amd and super cards are custom from my pov, not reference) so, if big navi will be better than 2080ti it will be 50$ cheaper on 1200$, but let's say 100$ cheaper!!! Still unoffordable for the vast majority of enthusiasts ........ or you think that they will put at 699$ just because?

There won't be any technological revolution that will cut the cost of gpus by half in the future......simply, top tier gpus will be affordable by top tier wallets, no scam at all....I won't be jealous..... but that's it..... I hope to be wrong though

The only fair comparison here is reference. We are not going by pov, but launch prices:

  • 5700, $350 vs 2060S, $400
  • 5700XT, $400 vs 2070S, $500

Performance is not identical, but $/performance, Navi wins.

Yeah mate I'm a rabid Nvidia fanboy

Spoiler!

Nv's naming scheme of designating bigger/smaller dies with like TU102/TU104/TU106/etc makes much more sense to me.
Like you don't have to know the exact GPU that GF104 was from - but you can tell it was a mid-range, smaller die product.

And I mean, HD 7970 -> R9 290X -> RX390 -> R9 Fury X -> RX480 -> RX590 -> VEGA 64 -> Radeon 7 -> RX 5700 XT doesn't really make much sense.

Yeah, sadly AMD seems to be tripping over itself not really spurring on Nvidia. We really need a 'Ryzen' for AMD's GPU division and sadly I don't see Big Navi being that.
